Vogel talks about his commitment here...

Not wanting to risk losing his scholarship, tackle Gunnar Vogel committed to Northwestern shortly after returning from his weekend visit.

Question about Gunnar. In another article about him it said he has bulked up and grown a couple of inches since last season. His tape was good but will the new size make him a different kind of player? position wise or speed wise?

He self-reported 6-6 290. The coaches offered him as a tackle after an in-person evaluation, so they must be reasonably sure his athleticism is still there after adding the size. I suspect he looks like a very different player than last year's tape.

Where does this leave Heckel, who seems an NU lean and is very well-regarded? Are we done at OL or do we take 5?

Seems like Heckel is out. The staff has targeted four OL recruits, though I think we could do with five or six.

Can't have too many big guys. Worst off some of them play DT.
IF he is still interested, I agree. We have only taken 3 the last few years and we have been pretty short on Bigs. Many can go OL or D and we need both. Especially since this is likely to be the largest class in a while.

That is one big kid.

If there are a few other offered kids out there whom NU considers to be offensive tackles in college, I hope we pursue them. Tackles are tough for us to find.
