Brendan Sullivan CHOKE JOB at the Music City Bowl

He won 8 games this year and played in a good bowl game. His former school won 4 and cycled through three QBs. I’m confused about where you think he lost out in this? It sure seems like he made the right call.

NW probably goes bowling if Sullivan stayed.
Buzz off troll. You should be more worried about the bush league act that your beached whale of a head coach just put on.

Oh yes, the IL dynasty. First bowl win since??? Fatty goes to Iowa when Kirk retires.
Oh I don’t think it’s a dynasty at all. But it was an incredibly improbable season that I will enjoy. Were less talented than probably all but a couple teams, and managed to win 10. And we didn’t have the benefit of doing it in the B1G West ;)

As for Bret heading to Iowa, I think it’s very, very unlikely unless they want to pay a remarkable buyout. Never say never, but I’d expect the odds are very low.

Maybe they will hire Fitz? Not sure if they’d be comfortable hiring someone who allowed sexual assaults to occur under his leadership. And I think in addition to being the Leader Of Shreks, the word is out that he’s nothing without Hankwitz running the D.

What’s your coach up to today? Probably sitting in his office, calling MAC transfers?
I can assure you he is not making a spectacle of himself and embarrassing his University on national TV. Bielema knows football but he is a piece of trash that I would not want anywhere near my son.

Enjoy your lasagna tonight

We can agree to disagree on who I wouldn’t want anywhere near my son.

“Sexual violence and sexual assault were rampant.”

LOL, buzz off troll. Figuratively Bielema isn’t half the man FItz is although literally he is three times his size.

“He” won 8 games? I think he started 2 and was 1-1. The 5th string QB Stratton put up similar stats and won 2 games. Lausch would have probably done as well under the Hawkeyes offense as all their QBs, like average 80-120 passing yards/game. You think that would’ve won more games for NU?

You realize Lausch threw for 40 more yards/game and rushed for more yards/game than Sullivan? EVEN if you only average Sullivan’s 2 complete games, Lausch comes out ahead. You still think we win any more games with Sullivan?

My bad. I honestly didn’t realize Sullivan was that ineffective. I’ll pick up the flag on that one.

Lawsuits tell another tale.
Really, what lawsuits? Where have all these lawsuits gone? Nowhere because it was all bullshit. The only lawsuit you’ll be hearing about in the news soon is when NU is forced to settle Fitz’s lawsuit and payout at least $100 million for wrongful termination. The whole thing was a fabrication started by a snot nosed prick kid who couldn’t deal with the fact that he was not good enough to play.

No foul, it was less in response to you and more in response to some board regulars who keep saying our season would’ve been meaningfully different with Sullivan behind center.

A board member claims to have participated in depositions, so I suspect that lawsuits are indeed proceeding.

Fitz and NU will almost certainly settle for some compromised amount. He certainly wasn’t wrongfully terminated. If you’re a leader of men, and the men are assaulting one another in the shower for years, there’s a failure of leadership that can’t continue. I’m guessing he’ll make the case that he didn’t know about it. They’ll say “yes but you’re in a position of authority you’re supposed to know everything in your program and facility” (and indeed he, and every other coach, do know everything that’s going on). And they’ll settle on some reduced settlement and put a nice gag order bow on the whole thing.

NU washes their hands of him, he gets a payout and can privately tell people he’s innocent. And the Cats continue to sink without Hank to prop everyone up.

That’s not the basis of Fitz’s lawsuit against NU. At all. He has a chance to get a LOT of money.

PS — are you typing on a NU board from Maple & Ash? Weird.

Depositions? Yes, depositions for Fitz's lawsuit. You are as ill informed on this topic as you are about football. To top it all off, once again you are a fan of another team who has nothing better to do on New Year's eve than to lurk and troll on an opposing team's message board. How pathetic.

You need to read Fitzgerald's employment contract. Its out there (or was).
NU was required by written contract to notify Fitzgerald of any issues within the football program and give him 2 weeks to rectify the problem before taking any other actions.
They didn't do that, clearly, so they're in breach of the contract unless they can prove he was directing the locker room shenanigans and understood the impact it had on a handful of players. (at least to me, a logical person)

I love how some of you have said some variation of “don’t feed the troll” or “go away” like nine times already in the same thread. Don’t feed the troll means stop feeding the troll.

I, for one, frankly enjoy the presence of some good old fashioned shit talking on my sports board.

Good job to your boys yesterday, Vassar. Now get back to keeping your hoops team practicing hard so they have a shot to beat us next time.

I didn’t watch the game. Reading after the fact, sounds like Bielema was defending his players after Beamer called a sleazy, deceptive return play. Apparently USC simulated an “all clear, don’t touch it, peter peter peter peter” situation, then caught the kick and executed a throwback.

Bielema looked like a doof, but he defended his players. He didn’t look like a “Beckman falls down” doof. His players responded well to being defended, and got the g-d win. His players no doubt appreciated being defended. The best kind of coach is the one who passionately, unobjectively defends his players always. Bielema did it.

Beamer’s defense was “it’s legal, we cleared it with the officials before the game.” Meaning, technically legal but also kind of sh*tty. And the return only netted 25 yards.

The SEC is a bunch of chumps. It’s a shame Sullivan’s CHOKE JOB cost the B1G another win over those suckas.

On the flip side, Bielema and Illinois were pretty clearly milking the defensive substitution rules throughout the game and also seemed to have some questionable “injuries.” Not a great look for anyone involved, IMO.

I watched the replay of bielemas antics. Didn’t see any of the actual game. Why did the other coach fly off the handle so bad?

Bert was trolling Beamer. It was delicious.

The rules on substitutions need to be cleaned up. Forcing teams to use time outs doesn't make for a better game. Same thing with fake injuries although I believe, don't know, there were rule changes around that this past off-season.

How do you prove a fake injury?

How do you prove a fake injury?

Bingo! I have no idea what if anything was done but a response might be for a team to be penalized whether a real injury or not - forced run-off of time, loss of a time out and the like.

Perhaps rely on good behavior from the coaches and players? That should work - not.

All of the unsavory stuff about Sulky is true. He’s human, after all. I just don’t see the point of all the grave dancing here. I guess it makes some people feel good.
I’m no fan of Sully, but objectively speaking, he had a better year playing in a big win over NU and in a bowl game than any of our QBs. Right decision by him, even if he could have handled it more gracefully.

I understand I’m contributing to the Sully talk right now, but we should really retire the Sully talk. He’s done nothing to change the track record he established at NU: a gamer who is capable of playing some Big Ten QB, but definitely not one who approaches power conference average or is worth guaranteeing a starting job to. As much as his quitting the the competition and pouring out the door at NU was unimpressive, he doesn’t play without grit on the field. Kid was a tough nosed battler for NU and in that bowl game. It’s why he gets hurt so much!

We have Preston Stone now and are much better off for it.
