Brendan Sullivan CHOKE JOB at the Music City Bowl

I understand I’m contributing to the Sully talk right now, but we should really retire the Sully talk. He’s done nothing to change the track record he established at NU: a gamer who is capable of playing some Big Ten QB, but definitely not one who approaches power conference average or is worth guaranteeing a starting job to. As much as his quitting the the competition and pouring out the door at NU was unimpressive, he doesn’t play without grit on the field. Kid was a tough nosed battler for NU and in that bowl game. It’s why he gets hurt so much!

We have Preston Stone now and are much better off for it.
You said the same thing about Johnson.

And Hilinski

And Wright

But maybe Stone will be different.

He contractually can’t go to another big ten school under the terms of his current deal.

Also, I think he learned his lesson at Arkansas. It's not like Alabama is going to come calling. He's a Big Ten coach and a good one. Both Bert and ILL are humble enough to stick together. We (NU) are stuck with him for a decade or so.

Bert has done a good job. He’s not overflowing with talent at all. Way better than what they have had the last 2 decades.

None of those guys had a season like Stone did last year. He was also the starter at the beginning of this year for a CFP bound team. I think Stone is much closer to a Ben Bryant comparison than any of those guys.

You said the same thing about Johnny Johnson. And The Great Jeff Hecklinski. And Weaver. And Lavery. And Hoekstra. And then Kiitner.... oh, you did get that one right.

One out of six. Congratulations. You're my hero.

“If you’re scared to compete you shouldn’t be playing the game.”

Brave words, my lad.

If you've been outright told that you won't be a starter at your current school, but another school comes along and offers a chance to be a starter and maybe some good NIL, should I begrudge that?

Why the need to dunk on the kid? So he talked a big game and then made the (sensible) decision to transfer to a school where he'd have playing time for his final year of college ball.

I think he's the football version of Killer Mopp for a lot of folks here. I don't have anything against him, he's kinda mouthy, so what?

I'll tell ya, I would have benched Bryant in 2023 in favor of Sullivan until the Minn breakout game. Bryant had done nothing and Sully had looked good in garbage time. Then we saw how Sullivan did against Neb and Iowa - woof. Then Ben came back and rescued the Cats (and Braun)

Haters gonna hate? Players can freely transfer now without penalty, as it should be.

The Tulane game is much more interesting with him there.

As always, I’ll be rooting for zero injuries and a clean fun game.

In hindsight, he sorta didn’t do you any favors. Forced them to make him the permanent replacement, when perhaps hiring a more qualified coach would’ve been better in the long run. He caught fire for a month and a half with another coach’s roster and staff, but the (small sample size) evidence so far would suggest he’s in over his head when doing it on his own. So far.

There were few other candidates. Fitz left such a toxic mess that nobody wanted the job.
