I had a chance to enjoy the wrestling match with Cam earlier, and I have nothing but good things to say.

He’s extremely well spoken, thoughtful, and intelligent. I had a lot of fun shooting the shit on a variety of things with him, but I’ll share a few comments the board might be interested in.

1. He talked about NU being the perfect mix of academics and athletics, and reiterated he’s lucky to earn an elite degree while also playing in the BIG. A lot of guys he knows haven’t gotten much out of their education at other schools, and he feels he’s gotten a ton. Relationships were something he touched on multiple times, saying he’s built a lot of relationships inside and outside of the football team that he doesn’t think he’d get elsewhere. The guy truly gets what makes NU different, and he touched on his parents playing a big role in choosing NU as well. Also talked about “being set beyond football” and feeling good he can use his degrees to go multiple directions.

2. He absolutely loved the Lakeside field. Said it was intimate, unique and a cool setting to play. Definitely bummed he won’t see the new stadium as a player, but he is pumped about the schedule and home games for 2025. “It’s more fun playing in a packed stadium even if it’s small than Ryan field when it’s not very full”. He also talked about being excited for the games at USC and Tulane, specifically.

3. I think everyone’s gonna be excited and pleased with Stone and Wilde. His exact words were “they’re both absolute dogs”. He said to not let the fact that Wilde played at SDDU fool anyone, he’s a legit D1 WR and going to be really good. He seems to be forming a pretty good friendship with Stone already as well, sounds like they do a lot outside of football. “He’s really sharp and figures stuff out quick”. He didn’t go into a ton of detail but my impression was they’ve gotten some throwing sessions in as a group since both have been on campus.

4. We talked about life as an athlete, and it’s an absolute full-time job. Between scheduled lifts every day, weigh-ins, class work, film prep, I’m not sure how he has time to do much else, especially during the season. As we left the match he said he had 2 assignments and hours of homework to do, so he takes the academic side seriously.

5. I got the impression Lausch knows his days as the starting QB at NU are probably over. He wouldn’t say much, but his reaction said it all. I can read between the lines as most of this board has as well. Talked about Jack being a great baseball player and him being excited he’s gonna get a chance to go play.

He shared some interesting thoughts on revenue sharing and NIL which were interesting as well, same with recruiting restrictions.

All in all, he’s a fantastic representative of NU and the program. It reiterated why whether the team is strong or not, I’ll always support them. But he made it clear he expects progress and more wins in his last go around, he’s got that sense of urgency.

Go cats.
