The Wildcats want to bring in another cornerback in their Class of 2017, and when they missed out on their top remaining target, they offered another one the same day.
Three-star cornerback Hanif Muhammad of La Marque (Texas) picked up an offer from the Wildcats on Tuesday. It was shortly after four-star cornerback target Elijah Hicks committed to Notre Dame over an offer from Northwestern and several others.
Muhammad says that Northwestern has been recruiting him for “a few weeks.” He is planning on taking an official visit to Northwestern next month.
“My first three (official visits) will be Illinois, Nebraska and Northwestern for sure,” he said via Twitter direct message.
Muhammad said that recruiting has been “going crazy right now.” The 6-foot, 175-pounder has 25 offers and picked up new ones from Northwestern and Washington State over the last week.
One of the reasons for all of the late interest is that Muhammad had to sit out “a few games” because he transferred this year from Alvin Clear Falls to La Marque. That, and his highlight film, has enabled him to collect offers from programs ranging from Montana and Idaho from the FCS to Illinois, Kansas State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Washington State from the Power Five.
“My last year’s tape and a little bit of this year’s tape is pretty good, from what they say,” said Muhammad.
Muhammad figures that he will probably make a verbal commitment in December, after taking some official visits.
