It's being reported that NU is seriously thinking of playing in the CBI Tournament. Supposedly the yea or nay is being left up to Collins and they don't seem concerned that hosting a 1st round game would cost $50,000'. At lot, if not all of that could be made up in ticket sales, parking and concessions and the practice time alone is a big plus. if the team stays healthy, I would think that it would be tough for CC to pass up.

What's a reasonable attendance guess with two or three days' notice and little interest in the third-tier tournament?

At 15 a pop, is it even 2,000?

I think that NU probably, if they choose to go, accept that it's an investment in practice time and little more. Still, selfish, I hope they choose to play if offered.

Post Season Haiku

CBI is cool
Cats will play like it matters
Then hang the banner

I look at it this way. If I were an underclassman and got a chance to play more gaimes in a "win or go home" environment, bring it on. And along with that, a shot at saying to my grandchildren, "we went to the post-season every season I played, and actually won the tournament we entered in 2015".

Why would they even wonder whether or not it was such a big deal?

Most likely not. Last year, none of the first-round games were televised.

Would the Big Ten network throw us a bone, or are their contractual issues that would preclude them from doing this?

I believe CBS Sports Network has exclusive TV broadcast rights. In the early years of the tournament, local networks (like CSN Chicago) were able to pick up games, but that hasn't happened in a few years and I suspect it is no longer permitted.

Weirdly, it appears that, last year, the quarterfinals and the best-of-three championship were on CBSSN. The last news story listed on the cbi site is from prior to last year's final, and there's no tv deal announced for this year's. (Last year's TV release came on 3/12, so they're not necessarily behind in not having made an announcement yet.)

They may get a new TV deal this year; I have no idea. Back when they were on HDN/AXS, they had more games televised but in fewer households.

I'm confident that if they put it on the B1G Network at least 40 or 50 of us would watch it.

Whoa, whoa - "best of three" championship? Does that mean if we get to the final round, that there are potentially three games? I'm guessing I'm thinking about this wrong.

That is correct -- the CBI championship round is a best-of-three series. The rest of the tournament is single-elimination.
