Hope all here, either as sons/daughters of fathers or as fathers of sons/daughters, are enjoying this Fathers Day Weekend.

Here is one way to do it. In Carson City, Nevada they hold a 54.8 mile "Epic Mountain Bike Race" that starts out at an elevation of 4,700 feet and climbs an additional 6,800 feet.

All participants climb their way into the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada, take in huge views of Lake Tahoe, Washoe Valley and the Carson Valley while connecting some of the area’s favorite (and challenging) pieces of singletrack, double track, gravel roads and the occasional paved segment.

Happy to report that my own son (the one who was a student athlete at Northwestern) survived the course despite being thrown over his handle bars twice and returning with bad bruises, and scrapes on his knees, shin and hands.

I have been corrected, The elevation climb was 6,800 feet on top of the 4,700 foot starting elevation.

As we learned not that many years ago playing Air Force there is most certainly a home field advantage due to the elevation when teams from the Midwest play in the Mountain West.
