Cignetti quote on winning now

What he has accomplished is astounding, other coaches can learn something from this. But where is it leading? You have to win in the first 15 seconds after you take over as a coach? It's almost a sickness to place winning immediately over having a good program, why can't you have a good program that wins (like Wisconsin, or Northwestern, which was the case for a time). After all not everyone is perfect or immediately successful, nor should they be. Time, as we know it, is our enemy. TV revenues foster this. It has become an insane vicious circle. College football is becoming yet another commercial venture based on profits at all cost, when in it's origins it was about winning over one's rival for the glory of your university. Insane competition eventually leads to warfare, destruction, and a possibly new order. Can't we get to the new order without the cataclysm? Probably not.

82 on September 8th, so a bit younger. Please don't tell anyone, they might think we are geezers, even though we still cheer for the Cats like we are 20. And take on the detractors.
No problem. You are a bit of a young snot, though, and the next time we hook-up at a football game I'll be counting on you to help me up the steps to my seat!

He's also 63. Nobody gonna buyout that contract and also give him say 50m
Why would they have to buy out that contract??? School has to buy out contract if they want to get rid of him but since if he leaves they don't have to pay him, what is there to buy out? There might be some cost to him if he cancels the contract but it is likely pretty minor by comparison to the contract

Yep, and nobody's going to poach him as some have suggested - not with a 27 million dollar 6 year deal!
That is just over $4 million per year. If they are willing to pay $5 million for a QB, I could see them wanting to go after him.

They are not wheelchair accessible
No problem, I'll help No Chores to his seat, but I doubt that will be necessary. At this point, it could well be the reverse. Main thing it to get to a seat and cheer. Okay, all you young studs, this is what your NU fan future looks like, if you stick with it like we have. The future is bright.

Cig is the third lowest paid Coach in the B1G. He would have to pay Indiana $6M to exit the contract. Maybe FSU or Florida kick the tires.

That's chump change if some desperate SEC program thinks he can be their messiah.
Maybe, but I doubt it will ever happen. If he stays at Indiana for the term of his contract, he'll retire a rich man and won't have to go through all of the b.s. that is football recruiting ever again.

I hear you but when I watch this guy get interviewed, I saw a very big ego. This guy is not looking for security, he is looking for adulation. That only comes on the biggest stage and Indiana football does not provide that.

Where it’s leading is where it’s already led: college football is now less about - not zero about, but less about - building up a program and culture and getting guys in for 3-5 years and molding them. That’s still a piece of it, but you also have guys coming and going much more and you need to bring in the right pieces and be flexible and adaptable with how you put your pieces together. It requires more creativity.

Wish we got him instead.

You could argue that NU played them closer than any other opponent this season. It was a three point game midway through the 4th quarter, with IU then tacking on two more TDs at the end.

Agreed. I usually am pretty upset after we lose but I felt differently after the Indiana game because I thought NU played pretty well and I also realized that Indiana was absolutely the real deal. That offense is talented and surgical.

They have the #103 SOS according to ESPN rating but they did beat all those teams by multiple TDs. If they beat Mich and Purdue and lose not badly to OSU they will still be more than worthy of a good playoff seed. Although they may have to play OSU again in the conference championship game? I don’t know, OSU has not exactly been a scoring juggernaut in conference play and IU has a bye to prepare for them.

Ohio State will be fired up in their game against Indiana because they'll be coming off the upset loss to us the week before.

Indiana wil give OSU all they can handle. The outcome of that game is very much up in the air.

Iff you can't get one wheelchair there how are you gonna get two?
We probably won't need any when the new stadium comes on board! In the meantime we are both able to navigate the new temporary stadium. Don't ever underestimate longtime NU 81 year old fans like us!

Who is Oregon going to lose to that they would miss the Championship game?

It is a fair point. They have played absolutely nobody so far. Though they have thoroughly dismantled those nobodies.
According to Sagarin's numbers, they are 0-0 against his top 40 teams. (Michigan is currently #40)
They've played the 81st toughest schedule.
That is the easiest schedule for anybody in his Top 57 BCS teams.

Doesn't mean they're overrated, of course.
