I am not sure of the accuracy of this information but a former administrator for the Chicago Machine (Pro Lacrosse) informed me that Evanston has banned professional sports at Ryan Field. Youth lacrosse is booming in the north suburbs and the Chicago Machine requested to use Ryan for their 6 home games, only to learn of the city's ban.
The Machine were forced to use Toyota Park far from any fan support and failed after a few seasons
NU is Evanston's leading private employer and has facilities the city could benefit from but the "land grant" issue must really be a burr under the city's saddle
