At this point the effect of preseason rankings should be free or almost free of the effect of preseason rankings. Here are the rankings for us and all of our opponents with the change in number of places over the last week for the Massey composite ranking.

10 (-10) Northwestern
11 (-6) Stanford
13 (-8) Michigan
18 (-10) Iowa
28 (-4) Duke
34 (+12) Wisconsin
49 (+2) Penn St
51 (-7) Illinois
53 (+9) Minnesota
61 (+11) Nebraska
79 (-6) Ball St
100 (-4) Purdue
NR EIU

The rankings are pretty fluid. Northwestern jumped up 10 spots overtaking Stanford. While the Massey composite does not directly predict outcomes, it seems that Michigan should be favored by less than 3 points per Massey. We should be favored for the rest of the regular season apart from Michigan and should be favored to win the Big10 west.

The Massey composite appears to be consistent with the head to head records of NU and its opponents; Sagarin not so much. Sagarin is more closely matching the betting for our game next week.

Sagarin rankings with ratings on the left.

4 (-7) Stanford 89.59
7 (-8) Michigan 88.01
20 (-7) Northwestern 83.88
21 (+4) Wisconsin 83.72
23 (-6) Iowa 82.74
31 (0) Duke 79.89
47 (+3) Nebraska 76.37
52 (0) Illinois 74.66
56 (+5) Penn State 73.45
74 (+10) Minnesota 68.05
92 (-15) Purdue 63.10
104 (-8) Ball State 60.89
157 (-5) Eastern Illinois 49.12
