I know details aren't a real strength here. But please allow me a moment to post this so we can be done with some of the ridiculous arguments over the last couple days. I'd love to talk about all the inaccuracies, but that would take much more time than the whole ten minutes I took to put this together. The laziness of the weak conference argument just isn't worth it.

I'll let you guys put the pieces together.

Certainly any statement that claims BIG basketball is on par with leagues like the WCC would be absurd, but the conference has been on the lower side of the high majors for several years in a row.

IHMO, this drop is probably related to watering down the league via expansion. Maryland's addition hasn't offset Rutgers and Nebraska has underachieved in most revenue sports since their arrival in 2011.

On the flip side, the BIG has not sunk as low as the PAC did earlier in the decade and the conference has some talented new-ish coaches, so it's not all gloom and doom.

Things can change quickly.

But all B1G teams were historically bad last year. This must be wrong. Even though there were 5 B1G teams that won their first round games last year, the conference should have had only had 3 teams get NCAA invitations.

It doesn't really matter though - an NIT bid is just as good. Remember when we got to play in the NIT 4 years in a row? That was so cool. I wonder when they they are going to do a documentary about that? I can't wait. They can call it "Going to the Dance With Your Sister." Some of those so called celebrities probably won't want to participate. Perhaps one of the knowledgeable posters on this Board would be willing to explain to all the idiots out there how stupid they are for thinking that getting a single NCAA tournament invitation in his 4th season makes Collins a good coach, especially when all of the other teams in the conference were historically awful. What a joke. What about the other 3 seasons? He only went 8 and 10 in the conference in his third season. No Vic Law? So what. No one ever used injuries as an excuse before. At least get to .500 in the conference like Coach Carmody did that one year. If we don't make the NIT this year, Collins needs to go. NIT! NIT! NIT!

Lost in all of this is that Bill Carmody should be coaching high school.
He just about is in something called the Parrot, oops sorry, the Patriot Conference. Has a winning, gee sorry again a losing record of 6-14.

If you look at recruiting for example last year, it seems to be improving a lot. It takes a couple years for that to be realized in league power but I would expect to start seeing rankings improve starting the next year or two. The BIG ACC challenge this year indicates weakness, but again, I expect that to improve fairly quickly. Oh and those bottom teams of RUT and NEB seem to be

And don't forget, last year the BIG wan the BIG ACC Challenge pretty handily as well

The B1G had zero teams make a regional final last season. The SEC had 3, ACC/B12/P12/Big East/WCC each had 1. It's hard to argue we were anything special last season.

To my knowledge no one is arguing that we were anything special. 5 teams in the final 32 and 3 in the Sweet 16 suggest we were not historically bad, though. Michigan and Wisconsin each lost by one point. And the ACC had one team in the Sweet 16 after getting 8 or 9 teams in, which seems to suggest it had one good team.

And yet I don't think anyone suggested the conference was historically bad either.

In fact, someone did. That was the exact description used. And the same has been implied throughout a long series of uninformed, trolling posts.

So now we have the record in front of us.

And we know how much that poster likes numbers. Haven't seen him/her post about Fitz's BIG numbers the last three years so I will: 6,5,7

Yes, he’s tearing it up.

Almost .500 Big Ten record after 12 years, but not quite.

5 winning seasons out of 12.

A bowl win .... every four years.

Brutal non conference schedules.

But two years ago, if it weren’t for back to back home losses to Western Michigan and the always dangerous FCS Illinois State Redbirds, that season could have been very special.

When 6 of our opponents aren’t doormats every year, call me.

No.

Let me see... you don't like Collins, so you root against the NU mens bb team. You also don't appear to support Fitz either, as you gleefully trot out damn statistics to support your twisted view. You are a sad, pathetic little man.

You said it yourself: they’re statistics.

So it’s not my “view.”

So if you consider win/loss records “twisted”, I’m not sure what to tell you, except, wow.

I would have been estatic if Carmody had been almost .500 in the conference after 13 years. And his teams definitely played a hell of a lot more doormats than the football team. You must have thought he was really tearing it up.

Wow! You're right. No one has ever used statistics selectively to support their own agenda.

For example... Try this statistic -- 2 consecutive bowl wins. Never been done in NU history. Ever.

Then you got : Most bowl wins in NU history. Most wins as NU coach. Most bowl games in NU history. Etc.

Your agenda sucks, by the way. Pathetic.

Are you DocCatFans son? That dorky kid who did the "hate week" bits that weren't funny?

No...this is a different person. DocCatFans son has already publicly announced he's no longer an NU hoops fan. Mystic's trolled this board for a good 15 years. We suspect he might actually be Bill Carmody.

Bill Carmody's B10 conference record was 70-150 for a .310 percentage. His average finish in the conference was 9th place. Thoughts on those stats?

My first thought is- exactly the same as Chris Collins!

Thanks for pointing that out.

why in the world do you guys indulge these people? this is like the 3rd or 4th time this week that people have felt the need to talk about how many bad posts or dumb topics there are going around. put them on ignore, stop engaging, and then you won't care about it! they'll probably get bored soon enough if no one responds.

Nope, Chris is higher. :)

But while I've got you here, you didn't comment on his conference win percentage?

Two words, sport -- The Dance.

Why do you follow NU basketball? In case Carmody is rehired someday? Hoping for Collins to fail? Pathetic.

10+10+9+7 = 36.

36/4 = 9

Woops.

Boy, I’ve never seen so many people run from mathematical facts whenever they disprove what they wanted to believe.

This board has become Trumpnation!

Try again Mystic. We were 5th last year. ;)

So you're more concerned about the three or four responses (I believe I had one or two of them)? But the 150+ weekly posts of babbling jibberish don't bother you? THAT'S what should be ignored? Interesting logic.

Do you really think the babbling jibberish is going to stop anytime soon?

Do you really think the same laughably incorrect conference rankings would have suddenly stopped? No, they would have been repeated - probably for a few years - in whatever useless horseh*t Mystic invents as he continues his one-man show.

Now, at a minimum, one or two more people have the facts that kills the argument. And gee, it took all of ten minutes.

I'm sorry it comes to this, but we've seen in the past that the board improves when the community gives a damn and takes a little action. It's too bad the owner doesn't.

We've also seen the board becomes painful when it turns into a pissing contest. However, I don't think my post, or the three or four other posts this week comes anywhere near that.

NCAA Tournament. Woops.

Ha well the 150 posts of babbling jibberish you are referring to I assume I don't see due to the ignore feature. And I have no issue with you complaining, but I just find it all rather amusing. Don't see why it's worth letting them rile you up when you can just put them on ignore.

Well if you have no issue with the complaining ...
