For playing their two games vs. us like they were NCAA tournament games. If you played other games this season, with half the intensity, you might not have had such a terrible season that will get your coach fired.

They are STILL in the bottom four after this win, are going nowhere, and will have a new coach next season. I will cast any aspersions I like. They have TWO sixth year seniors and an NBA player, and are BIG 10 bottom feeders. That is what is embarrassing.

Trying to make fun of a team that beat the crap out of you twice doesn't work very well.

So I guess you would trade two victories over the Illini for switching places with them this year in the standings? I sure as heck wouldn't. With their talent, the are an absolute embarrassment being in the bottom four in the BIG, period.

I guess if that's what makes you feel better go ahead.

I have no problem making fun of them, lol. Again, it's the whole body of work dude. Two wins against us does not save their season, unless they win out before the BTT. Illinois could actually become a bubble team with another win, but realistically they would need to win out before most people label them a bubble team.

Coming into tonight, the dance card indicated that the Illini had a 0% chance of making the tournament. They would have to hurdle 20 teams just to make the projected bubble. Think the only way they get in is if they win the BTT.

No offense because I love your enthusiasm, but the sour grapes here are too purple for my taste.

Not sour grapes, at all. Just being honest. I've watched the Illini play all season, and they have been, for the most part, a trainwreck. They played two of their four best games of the season vs. us, because they truly were like NCAA torunament games for them. Did you see Groce before, during and after the game? He was high-fiving the fans like he just won the National Championship! These games were critical to them since they literally have nothing else to play for this season.

I bet a lot of Illini fans are also saying "If only we played all season the way we played vs. Northwestern..."

Uh, I think we'll take the scenario where our coach DOES get fired, please! He's put together the worst stretch in 40 years at this program ... sweeping NU this one season is a blip on the radar.

I would love to see him stick around for some more underachieving seasons, but I have a feeling that your current AD will not stand for that, unlike the situation with Beckman where he somehow continued to stick around for three glorious campaigns under a prior administration despite the fact that he was a clownshoe.

The fact is that Illinois has more talent and health on their roster than we do on ours. We need better effort, desire, coaching and resourcefulness to beat Big Ten teams in almost every game in order to win. MHO.

Lets hope he doesnt get fired. Illinois should be a top 25 program or at least make the yearly trek to madness.
