Cushing did a fantastic job

I'm back at the Gladesranch. I ran out for a boatload of Wild Turkey and beer immediately after the game! I'm in a good mood now.

Have your techies explain to you my "one push" comment.

I still don't know what to blame for this...recruiting or coaching. Coaching deserves the heat, though! Lotsa heat! This was what I call a "program damaging" loss. We can't ever have these, no matter how good of a team ISU might be.

Recruiting, coaching, development - all on the coaches. But after continuous poor showing over the longer sample, the one common thread is the coaches. And I agree that this was program damaging. After holding tight following last year's good fortune, those coaches needed to put out. Those that watched last year knew we had some glaring deficiencies. Failing to address the problem falls on Fitz, IMHO.

And before you start worrying about how good ISU might be, perhaps a look at last week's conqueror might reveal some insight about the state of affairs.

I have wandered down to the local bar. But as I'm flying in the am, no wild turkey tonight for me. I will however buy you a drink if we ever crossed paths since I have one free with Florida falling off my xmas list ;)

We haven't really landed guys who had "future NFL OL" written all over them at anytime during Fitz's tenure. Yet we have had better performing offensive lines under Fitz.

Do you believe that our OL recruiting is not as good as it was earlier in Pat's tenure? I don't buy that at all. Like a bunch of people pointed out, Cush has lost the troops.

I don't watch the OL much (I focus more on the DL when I watch line play) but I think our OL has gotten worse. Park didn't play, but that shouldn't have made THAT much of a difference today. I don't see the talent that manhandled Nebraska in 2011, guys like Netter and Mulroe and including reserves like Porcelli who just "Board drilled" Nebraska guys off the LOS for TD's in goal line situations. Now we have to raid the defensive line for OL! That shouldn't happen if we're recruiting well. There may definitely be a coaching problem, but I cannot discern that or partition that from possible scouting, recruiting, athletic development or other problems. Maybe I'll view the game again later and watch the OL.

We were manhandled at the LOS by a team that had a defense in which we wouldn't have taken one of their kids as a recruit. When JJTBC can't run at all against a FCS team you know there is a significant problem. We have at least two guys that are out there a lot that look like they have no business being out there. I don't think our RS Freshman were out there much at all, but I could be wrong. Our guys may not be 4 star recruits, but almost all of them had other P5 offers. This isn't a talent issue, it's clearly something else when we get pushed around by these 2 teams. Imagine what happens when we start playing teams where we clearly are on the short end of the talent stick. It becomes a vicious cycle, you can't recruit the 4 stars because they see what you did with the 3 stars. Glades, you don't need to view this again to know we have a coaching issue here.
