Seemed to me that the Gophers got a whole lot of uncontested 3-point shots last night. Wondering if: (a) it’s gonna happen due to our defensive schemes such as choosing to focus on interior defense, (b) guys were not executing their assignments within the schemes, (c) something else.

It was (b), as the announcers explained in the telecast. When they dumped the ball down low, and we looked to double tam, our primary post defender (Skelly in the example) is supposed to rotate back to the weak side shooter if the ball is passed back out from the post. Instead, our defender drifts, guarding air strong side, instead of guarding the individual he was supposed to guard. We corrected this later in the game for the most part.

Man do we miss Ben Johnson! He would've locked down their shooters.
