Was that one of the worst final possessions of all time?

And Houston turned it over three drives in a row to end the game … I mean what the f*** was that?

Now that I think about it probably second worst last possession after Georgetown's Fred Brown passing the ball to James Worthy of North Carolina, mistaken him for a teammate.

Oh well.

Can't remember if it was the final possession, but Chris Weber's non-timeout timeout.

As much crap as the NBA takes on this board, that was some ugly basketball last night. I know players were playing tough defense but there were a lot of bad shots taken and missed. Houston’s offense often resulted in them taking a tough shot as the shot clock ran out. Not a work of art.

I enjoyed watching the great defense by both teams, but can anyone explain what Houston was trying to do on offense most of the game?

There was amazingly little motion toward (or near) the basket, just a few passes or picks side to side 25+ feet from the basket until one of the guards jacked up a three pointer. Perhaps they were just trying to get right to rebounding?

In comparison, the Chris Collins offense is a delight of open shot opportunities!

I had the same discussion last night. For me, the responsibility for the ugliness didn't solely rest on the players and coaches. I thought those refs were HORRIBLE. In the first half, they obviously made the decision to "let them play." Fine. But the play was obviously out of control and a small percentage of foul calls were made.

But then in the second half, the refs tried to get the game more under control and started making calls that they weren't making in the first half. You could tell most everybody had no clue what a foul was. There was absolutely no consistency.

If the refs spend the first five minutes of the game calling what should be called, I don't think the game evolves into what it was.

I think Duke probably beats both those teams 7 out of 10 times. But that’s why they play the games and I am glad Houston was able to pull off the upset.

It is one of the larger pet peeves of mine, when the refs very clearly decide that they are going to call an entirely different game in the 2nd half, without any heads-up to the teams playing. I'm sure there were plenty of moments that they could have decided in the 1st half that they needed to tighten up, but to call 4 fouls in the entire first half and then get the same amount within 3 minutes of the 2nd was absurd and took away from the flow of the game.

Houston didn't get a shot off for their last THREE POSESSIONS. Wild.

That one was definitely an ugly one, but at least exciting.

On that final possession, it looked like they were determined to take a 3 when they really didn't need to
I understand the desire to shoot a three if a super good two isn't available, which it wasn't all half for them. The math is better, it's smart! It was just no an impressive possession and a bizarre move at the finish.
