Does Olah know who Wally Pipp was? Pardon & Olah the Wildcat twin towers!28 points and 12 rebounds?! Damn!
I was driving back from from the Outback Bowl event at Clearwater Beach, and my son in the back seat was giving me the play by play from the ESPN feed. Huge road win for the Cats.

He was an absolute beast. Perhaps the most athletic big man NU has ever had.
Why did we want to Red Shirt him?
It is likely JVZ that loses the most minutes when Olah gets back. His FTs are much better than JVZ Going to be hard to keep DP to less than 15-20 minutes per game. It will be interesting.Does Olah know who Wally Pipp was? Pardon & Olah the Wildcat twin towers!
It was a great win on the road. Before we get excited we need to remember that Neb is an 8-5 team coming in, RPI 220 and their SOS 285. That is not a very good team. On top of that they lost a week ago to Samford by 11 at home.

We won a must win game without Olah. CC has proved his recruiting prowess in this freshman class. Look at their skill set and their Big 10 type bodies. Great upside. We are moving in the right direction and the recruiting coupled with the development of the upper classmen makes me feel positive about our future. When was the last time Northwestern basketball fans were discussing how to divide up minutes for 3 legit Big Ten level post players on the same team, though?!?!
So fricking what? Since when does that mean anything? Watch this guy's game. Scoring is his ONLY goal. He is wildly deficient in every other aspect of the game and therefore hurts the team. Lloyd B. Free II. Plain and simple. The more he scores, the worse we are.
Also had 4 assists and 0(!!!) turnovers. He protects the ball and gives us points when we need them. If all he cared about was scoring he'd have a lot more shots this year than he does...considering he plays 40 min a game. Hate on him all you want if it makes you feel good, but he has saved us many times in the past. That Michigan game last year is one of my all time favorite NU hoops memories!
Uh, wrong thread?
It wasn't so long ago that NU had Scott, Tolic, and Baran on the roster. How quickly we forget past greatness. (I'm kidding.)When was the last time Northwestern basketball fans were discussing how to divide up minutes for 3 legit Big Ten level post players on the same team, though?!?!
Able to run the floor, soft hands, and above average athleticism for a big which helps in being successful around the basket (Pardon has a nice touch on his put-backs).
Pardon will have his struggles, esp. against the B1G teams w/ deeper frontcourts, but the good news is that once Olah and JvZ get fully healthy, the 'Cats will now have the size/depth to better compete.
BB may be more polished as a center when he hits campus next year, but Pardon has the greater upside.
That's great, I posted the same. Just think a few years back we were always told that it was impossible to recruit "bigs" to NU. OK, Esch was an exception and please don't reference Rowley, Scott. etc.You may enjoy the following tweet as much as I did:

Coach Collins just told the media that he told Alex Olah a couple days ago to go home and Google the name Wally Pipp.
Actually, if he was talking about Demps, somewhat true. He takes more shots than anyone else on the team and his FG and 3 pt %s are lower than anyone else. That said, he is willing to take the shot where a lot of guys are much more tentative. He also had far fewer assists than he probably should as he was generally taking the shot. But in the last couple games, he has seemed more willing to dish the ball and he has had 11 assists.Lol! I guess so. No clue how I did that. Oh well...Stupor's not the kind of guy that's going to change his mind even if pure contradicting evidence walloped him on the head...
Because there would be no minutes for him. Olah was going to get 25-30 each game and JVZ about 10 with Skelly filling in the rest. The goal was to give him his shot when there were 35 minutes to divvy up and not 3-5 Good reason to not burn the shirt. Sort of like having a guy sent to the minors so he can play every day and develop rather than have him stay in the big leagues to sit on the bench and get about 5 at bats a week. OK for a seasoned pro but not so good for a guy you want to develop. Better to have him get his playing experience when he could get a fair amount of time on the court. That's my question. What the hell was he doing on the bench with a redshirt????

But when Olah went down, there were suddenly 30 minutes that had to be taken care of against formidable opposition. In the pre season, JVZ showed that he was foul prone and not good with FTs so it would be hard to give him more than about 15-20 minutes and Skelly is out of position at the 5 so hard to give him more than 5-10 minutes as a 5. That meant that there was a need for at least 10-20 minutes that had to be covered.
This kid should be getting 20 minutes even if Olah and JvZ are healthy. Sit Skelly and Taphorn if you need to (like against Nebraska), but get that kid out onto the floor.
Can't stress enough how good his hands look through two games. And his put backs are so polished.
This should allow Olah to be more aggressive, something that isn't totally natural to him.The great news is, NU now has 15 fouls to use at the Center position so they can be aggressive and physical in Big 10 play. The PT will sort itself out depending upon match-ups, fouls, who is playing well, etc.
