Devin Turner to Baylor

So our top three transfers likely land at Baylor, Oregon and Ohio State but we still have people who insist our players look slow and not strong enough whenever they try to explain why NU is losing. We lack depth and have struggled with the OL and QB position over the last several years but there is nothing wrong with our starting talent across the rest of the depth chart.

We aren't losing the bottom of our roster, we are losing the top. So yes we HAD a couple top guys that could play at that level but those guys are now gone. They are not grabbing our slow weak guys.

This is a silly point, it’s the BEST starters on the roster we’re losing, not the worst or even average. If we had the best starters we lost the previous year, we’d have been better… except at QB, where we’re still struggling with our years of pathetic philosophical and scouting failings.

These three guys must be replaced with impact guys, plus additional guys. We have the resources now. We have brought in one veteran, impact lineman, so we need to see more.

NU thought it was starting over last season, but it's still starting over.
Not quite. The emergence of Damon Walters this season lessens the sting of losing D.Turner. Robert Fitzgerald also got a lot of reps at both the nickel and also when Turner sat out due to injury. We could use another solid safety from the portal but we do have some capable backups like Garner Wallace who could step up.

Hence the depth comment I made. My point is that people don’t recognize that the top end of our depth chart is talented.

You totally missed the point I was making. There are people on this site that week in and week out during the season make comments that our roster is composed of Ivy League talent. It’s not.

Agreed that we had some top end talent. But it was only part of the top of the depth chart and a big part of that that has now departed

More MAC than Ivy League. We have had top end talent but we have had a recent exodus of that and what we have coming in and what has been coming in to replace it recently is mostly at a level lower than what portaled out. We can hopefully develop guys but if as soon as they get to that level they leave, it does not get better

We lost 3 starters, which hurts. But that’s the reality of today’s college football landscape. The challenge is to reload.

The bottom half of the roster, including most of the starting offense, is, unfortunately (okay, not literally ivy league talent, but G5 talent).

Defensively, yeah we still have some dogs in there, no doubt. We just lost three of the.l biggest dogs, but at least we’re on track making acquisitions. Still need several more.

We landed a big tackle to replace Thompson.

NIL cash also landed SMU’s backup quarterback. This is huge - he’s gotta be better than what we had last season.

We apparently reload at defensive back. Fine by me.
