During interview at the basketball game he said ""We're so excited for our bowl opportunity. It's time to take the purple to the College Football Playoff,"

Am I hearing this right? Is he one-upping Barnett's famous "We're going to take the Purple to Pasadena"?

Expansion to 12 teams means it’s not so ludicrous a statement

Great observation and since he said it I have been rethinking my dislike of the division-less (Word?) Big Ten. What is being set up (To provide more TV content.), I think, is a system similar to the Big Dance. That likely means that the 12 team playoff ultimately will be expanded. All about making the playoffs and less about a conference or division title.

Yeah plus given our schedules in an expanded Big Ten; you can make the playoff at 10-2 in the future Big Ten.

Probably have to win 2-3 out of the 4-5 top 25 match ups on the schedule (as well as everything else), but it's not an absurd suggestion.

Nothing like the 4 team configuration of the past 10 years where we'd have to go 13-0 to have a shot.

Big Ten will regularly have 3 or 4 teams (along with the SEC with similar numbers) in the CFP.

Not really as the Pasadena was the pinnacle a the time for a BIG team. It was the top bowl and now it is becoming more of an afterthought unless it is one of the playoff games and even then it is teams from any conference and has nothing to do with the history.

I think he actually quoted Barnett too: Barnett said let’s take the purple to Pasadena. Now let’s take them to the college football playoff, something like that.

Well played statement with it going to 12. Top 4 is incredibly hard although we were #3 going into the Rose Bowl in 1995 (without playing a championship game).

We won’t have to win the B1G championship to get to the playoff of 12; there may be 3 if not sometimes 4 B1G teams in the top 12.
