Scroll down 6 posts for my photos of President Obama landing in Alaska aboard Air Force One today plus photos of USAF/Secret Service helicopter checking me out to see what is mounted to my tripod.

Here is one of the photos which is of some historic significance as it shows the President flying over Denali which until his renaming it in conjunction with his visit to Alaska, was known as Mt. McKinley.
Given that the Buckeyes have been fighting tooth and nail to oppose this change due to McKinley hailing from Ohio, I guess that makes this somewhat on topic.

Prior post:
This morning awoke to see the Chugach Mountains that surround Anchorage capped with snow. To my recollection this is the first time we have had "Termination Dust" (our term for the mountain snow that heralds the termination of summer) as early as August.

Here in Alaska the snow capped mountains herald the coming of Fall Football.

Ironically, President Obama is flying into Anchorage tomorrow to make a political statement about Global Warming. For details, head over to this link on The Rant Board:

I fail to see how snow heralds anything. Except maybe shoveling.

Here in Alaska when snow caps the mountains it means football season is in full swing. Sort of like the turning Fall colors send the same signal in the Midwest.

It is not unusual for the State Championship games to be played on a shoveled field, so yes snow heralds shoveling which heralds football.:)

Oh, and with regard to the President's visit here in Alaska tomorrow, here is a photo I captured of Air Force One the last time he flew by my office:

DSC_0040.jpg

The court house has been closed and the streets are now blocked in preparation for the President's arrival today. The President has been airborne now for three and a half hours and is scheduled to land here in Anchorage at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in approximately 4 hours at 1:40 PM Alaska Time. On his schedule for today will be a roundtable meeting with Alaska Natives followed by a 5:00 PM address as the "star speaker" at the GLACIER Conference here in Anchorage being headed by Secretary of State John Kerry and being attended by leaders of other Arctic nations.

Included in this view of the presently blocked streets is Captain Cook Hotel (the tall brown buildings) where the President will be staying until he departs on Wednesday.

OK, here are the promised photos of President Obama arriving in Alaska aboard Air Force One as I shot them from my office balcony today. The first photo is of some historic significance since it shows the President flying over Denali, which until today's visit and his renaming of same, was previously known as Mt. McKinley. (The snow covered peak on the left is Mount Foraker and Denali is the snow covered peak to the far right. Both are some 200 miles distant.)

Also added are some photos of the USAF/Secret Service helicopter that kept buzzing overhead me before and after the President landed making sure that it was a camera mounted to my tripod and not something else.

The President's motorcade stopped in front of my office building this morning enroute to the nearby Snow City Cafe. Several of the office staff who were out getting coffee ended up with a surprise encounter meeting the President. Here is the poster that greeted the President as he went in to pick up some pastries for his helicopter ride on to Seward.

I'll be more thrilled when the copters take him for his last ride out of the white house. I haven't lived too long but of all the Presidents I can remember, this one is the most awful president, even worse than Jimmy Carter who suckered me to vote for him. Hi s image is an awful one that is really profane next to NU's most famous chat board. Let's talk football! It's game week and we have waited for this all year, let's leave President Obama on the rant board or other web pages of ill repute where he belongs unless Alaskawildcat can give us some hint of an NU victory based on the chemstreams that our Air Force One plane leaves.
