1. NU is trying to run out the clock at the end of the 1st half. NU runs 2 plays then throws a safe pass but the receiver runs out of bounds when he could not get a 1st down , stopping the clock, saving Iowa their last TO. NU punts but the "gunner" promptly grabs the punt, again stopping the clock instead of letting it roll.

2. NU runs a lot of WR screens and end arounds, all players seem to be run directly to the sideline with no thoughts of cutting back. The sideline is the greatest tackler in the history of football, having never missed a tackle.

3. How many touches does Himon deserve in a game ?

“Explain this?”

Poor coaching of fundamentals, clock management, situational awareness, gameplan, personnel packages.

Re: Himon, no idea why we decided to run straight into the teeth of the Iowa defense all day and didn’t give more touches to Himon to try to make something happen on screen passes etc.

1) Henning screwed up. The play was a conservative call to get him in space to see if he could pop one, he instead went outside and out of bounds.

1a) Pretty sure the gunners were instructed to touch the ball rather than letting it sit there because DeJean is prone to making a late play on the ball.

2) That’s because the defense is trying to force them that way. Remember the first play of the game? Henning tried to take a screen back inside and was absolutely wrecked by the pursuing defensive front.

3) Who knows? He’s got a little explosiveness, but not “have to manufacture touches” explosiveness.

Screens are tough against zone-heavy teams like Iowa. They don’t do too much fancy stuff schematically, instead basically force you to chunk your way down the field while keeping everything in front of them.

Kyle Rudolph was a real doof, but his comment about the Iowa defense in zone, always facing the quarterback, was insightful. They pursued very well.
