Coming in Friday, wanting to meet with some people night before and possibly morning of game. Help some RU folks out here and give me some good recs. I can't find anything close to the stadium on Google maps so will defer to what are the better spots very close by

TIA

What is the best spot before a game?

Right before game would be previously mentioned Ten-Mile or Blue Stone (a few blocks west). You can actually drink at the stadium up until game time though it's after security gate with no in & out option.

Friday go to BAT 17 - best bar and food in Evanston in my opinion.
Before the game, which is at 11:00 a.m. find a place to park near the stadium and tailgate out of your car. In the alternative, park near the stadium wherever you can and cruise the East and /or West lots carrying cold beer and people are likely to invite you to join them at their tailgates. It's Homecoming and class reunion weekend, so expect everything to be very crowded, especially since there were no reunions last year. Good luck!

Keg of Evanston is always a good time
Didn't the Keg close a couple years ago. Did it reopen somewhere else?

Great place though.

The stadium is in a heavily residential area. The few bars there will be jammed. Best bet is to tailgate outside if you find a Rutgers gang hanging out or if you are driving in and can scalp a parking pass.

A friend of mine is a Michigan State fan and he pre-gamed at the bar linked right below. I have never been there. From what I can tell it is less than a minute from an "El" stop (MAIN street) that takes you a half mile from the stadium (take the el north to Central, a ten minute trip). Or you can take a cab/uber from the bar to the stadium and vice versa for a few bucks.

There are some bars downtown too that you can take the El or a taxi/uber to the stadium too. There your stop will that you will want to get on is DAVIS street.

Are you serious? If you cannot find a place to drink in Evanston, or anywhere else for that matter, you are missing something. That's one of the only things Americans do any more is drink, drinks are EVERYWHERE. Once in Evanston, if you cannot find a place to drink, there is a missing piece, and it is not the bar scene. I have always thought of Rutgers as a great University, training resourceful minds. Plus, once you've had enough to drink, it won't matter to you where you are.

The Ba’Hai temple in Wilmette is an excellent place to pregame peacefully on Saturday.

They might not let you have any booze, but you won’t find another one like it in North America.
I took a nap there after a game several years ago,so great for naps. Also magnificent.

Traditionally, with opposing fans, I give them (jokingly) bad directions to go to Midway airport and wait for the shuttle. Don't be impatient - it will come. However, RU fans have been through so much, and were unfailingly polite during our visit in 2018. I just want to say - welcome. I hope we win, and will be @#$%^&* if we lose, but I wish you success for the rest of the season. Big Ten Football ain't beanbag.

Both The Keg and Bar Louie are gone. Try Ridgeville Tavern - the best around right now. There is also a good place on Central just west of Green Bay Avenue, but good luck getting in on game day.

Just curious, where would one find parking near the stadium where you could tailgate out of your car? Other than the designated lots and golf courses?

We should send them to Football Phil’s tailgate!
Just tell me where…

Just tell me where…
They were being facetious. @footballphil is an incredibly endowed and well-muscled individual who does not suffer opposing fans lightly. You’ll know him by the distinct scent of Old Spice that he wears exclusively.

If you meet him and offend him, take our advice and Just walk. Don’t run, and certainly don’t talk back. I for one am always grateful that he cheers for NU and not some other team.

Boilermakers, Buckeyes, and Wolverines have learned their footballphil lessons the hard way after being disrespectful in his presence.

You’re welcome in advance.

Bat17 by campus and best on Friday. The food is better at the diner portion of the business than the bar.

10 Mile on Gameday usually gets packed arrive as early as possible. Not sure when they open. They a block away from the stadium.

Lots of streets and homes in the area of the stadium. I park on the street or at somebody's home for virtually every game. If you're a good boy, I'll tell you where.

As a former NU season ticket holder, we got bounced from the West Lot after the previous renovations of ‘97. Got moved to the Evanston Hospital lot. 1 year of that in late-90’s was enough.

Have had some luck with parking at homes between Central and the golf course in recent years. Have also used that grade school on Green Bay Rd. Been years since did this, but do they still park cars at SPAC and the Allen Center and run the school bus shuttle??

Haha… thank you. Kinda picked up on that with the “guns wide open”. But appreciate the heads up. We are just looking to have fun and see a football game.

If anyone who smells remotely of Old spice offers you a drink, smile and take it. If you are wearing red, that could be a set up, so best to dress in purple.

The only thing I do purple is “Purple lot”. That where we tailgate for a Rutgers game. Red all the way…. cause we all Bleed Red. 🩸

Welcome, and glad you’re coming. Football Phil is a legendary inside presence who used to frequent these boards with a hilarious bit.

By “guns wide open”, he was referring to @footballphil’s biceps. They are massive, oiled, and indifferent.

Think of “Pumping Iron” - only all natural. They’re the only body parts which are listed on the famed “All American” tribute at Ryan Field.

If you come on peaceful terms and intent on having respectful fun, then you should be fine at the football game.

What time would you say is good to get to 10 mile? Wife and I excited to hang with you all!

Ok we are definitely doing Bat 17 Friday night.

What about a breakfast spot for Saturday to actually eat good breakfast food and not drink lol. Recs?

Walker Bros. Pancake House in Wilmette would be a good choice. About 3/4 mile from Ryan Field. From the stadium, go west on Central Street about 5 blocks then take a right (north) on Green Bay Road. Walker Bros is about 1/4 mile north on the west side of GB Road. Have fun (but not too much fun if you know what I mean).

Since you’ve been a good sport, go to Sarkis on Gross Point Road for breakfast. Parking may be difficult but you will be in for a delicious meal.

Clarke’s on Davis is also a personal favorite. Incredible skillets.

Wherever you go, you won’t go wrong.

IOW, have drinks after pancakes to ease the pain. Truthfully, none of us have a clue as to the result, given Northwestern's SPECTACULARLY poor start and that Rutgers is playing decently. Enjoy the game and Evanston!

The apple pancake is an absolute must, preferably with a side order of crispy bacon
