Fitz called a pass play on 3rd and very long at their own 15.

I just want to point that out. He didn't do a low-risk run there. That is a different Fitz.

Exactly. Up seven, third quarter, defense playing great. That is ALWAYS a run in that situation for Fitz. Something's up, and I like it!

The weird thing is that with the frosh QB, and with our rushing attack, I want him to run it up the middle more.

Oh well.

Even if it's not the right playcall there, I just like that it was called at all - shows that he's not going to be the same predictable coach he's been for quite a while.

Thorson got his first game jitters behind him without some of the mistakes costing us. Also showed some great athleticism on that run plus a really great throw (and catch) that helped seal the win. He'll settle in and when he does this team could put a really tough O and D on the field. We might need his legs a bit more as well if the pass blocking doesn't solidify further. All in all a great way to start the year.

Good first game for him, but of course he will need to play better the rest of the way. Hopefully, Eastern Illinois gives him a chance to get into the flow, get some explosion plays under his belt and give him some more confidence going into Durham.
