Fleck

Since 2000, there have been 1184 times in which an FBS team has scored exactly 10 points in a game. They've won 68 times for a 68-1116 record, a .067 winning percentage. Northwestern has not won scoring less than 13 points in 38 such games in that 22 year stretch.

LOL. Sizzle. Burned. The death of complementary football.

Destroyed with facts and logic.

He’s not a great game day, Xs and Os, clock management coach at all. He’s a motivator who recruits the right kids and his success is largely due to picking good OC and DC. It looks like Ciarroca is Fleck’s Hankwitz. When he left to PSU the Gophers O was bad and when he came back, instantly good again.
He has also had massive success from the portal, getting multiple 4* starters from ND, Michigan, Clemson, A&M.
That in addition to getting most of his key guys to stay for a 6th year.
They sure timed it right. No one in the West has much of a chance aside from an average looking Wisconsin team.

It’s almost as if kids want to play for coaches that know what they are doing.

That’s because you don’t understand football. The three phases are all interconnected in a variety of ways.

Even us unedumucated football dunces know all about your rules of complementary football. The Corbi Laws dictate that it is impossible and beyond the boundaries of known football physics for you to possibly have a great offense and a great defense (and great special teams) at the same time. Conveniently, at NU, it’s been impossible to empirically disprove the theory, although we now know you can have a shitty offense and a shitty defense (and shitty special teams) all at the same time.

Fitz and Fleck were parallel early in their careers. And whether we see it or not, there are a lot of fans who can stand Fitz's wonderbread white boy All-American act, even though it generally has a high approval rate. That thing that many of us are annoyed by in Fleck...Fitz has it. Or had it.

The difference now is in their second act as head coaches. Fitz has effectively aged out. He's a middle aged coach who acts like it. The fire is out. Fleck on the other hand is as obnoxiously energetic as he was at Western Michigan. It doesn't work for everyone, but it works for enough people who buy into it and will play/coach their hearts out for him.

Fitz lost this somewhere along the way and we have to pray he finds it.

Fleck is 6 years younger than Fitz.

True, but this is Fleck’s 10th year as HC and fitz’s 17th. Coaching major college footvall
Is a grind and maybe Fitz is starting (has started) to coast. Whatever it is, 100 ADs out of 100 would hire Fleck over Fitz right now.

The only stat that matters is wins. I want NU to win. I couldn’t care less how they go about doing it.

And the cats would have won a good more # of games and not have so many losses to the likes of the MAC, Army, Dook, FCS programs if they had at least an average O.

And sorry, for the majority of his tenure, Fitz's Os have been an albatross around the D.

Not running up the score is one thing, having difficulty generating any sort of O is something entirely different.

One doesn't have a "complementary" O if the O consistently has trouble sustaining drives or regularly goes 3 and out (one cannot have a complementary O w/o having at least a decent O-line, but for some reason, Fitz keeps thinking that he's special and can do what others cannot).

Having a dynamic/functional O doesn't mean more TOs; pretty sure the Cats have had more TOs than the much more dynamic Wake O the past couple of years.

And as the 538 article shows...

But Daboll and Kafka have already shown that unpredictable playcalling can help accumulate enough small edges to overcome the Giants’ biggest obstacle this year — their own quarterback.

there are ways to generate enough O even when you don't have enough chips.

And you must have been watching something else, since it's a rarity for the Cars to have good, much less decent special teams play.

Never gonna happen, but would love to see Kafka back at NU running the offense. Maybe the program.

How does Minnesota win games. They dominate at the LOS on both sides of the ball. They rear back and knock your lips off.Can NU do that. The OL did against a soft Nebby team and have struggled since
Yes Minny has a QB who has been there long enough to qualify for a pension which sure helps but they play hard nosed big boy football. And with the portal don't be surprised if Fleck brings in someone better than Morgan.
Don't like Fleck in the least but you have to tip your cap to him as he has found a football philosophy and has stuck to it.

Better is yet to be determined, but the young man from Naperville (Kaliakmanis) appears to have a stronger arm and may be more mobile. He still won't have Morgan's game experience though.

Watching the Minny game with Purdue. Impressed with the Gopher fan turnout (though Purdue is giving Minny a tough game so far). Minny fans seem to be turning out in numbers for Fleck’s program.

I was there. It was not a good turnout. Announced like 42,000 on homecoming for a too 25 team only about 35 we’re actually probably there on a beautiful day

Wow, that’s pretty bad for homecoming on a beautiful day with the kind of buzz they had going on after crushing MSU.

Chances of that happening are pretty much nil (and it would only be as the HC).

Greater chance of seeing Trevor take the reigns of the program (would finally get back to an aggressive, innovative O), but that is if Trevor doesn't take the NFL coaching road (can see Kafka, when he gets a HC gig, hire TS as his QB coach).

Great to see Trevor back at NU, but with zero coaching experience at any level, I think he's many years away from being considered. Wouldn't mind bringing him back to coach QBs though.

^ Didn't say that Trev would come in at HC at the very start, but as we just saw w/ Leonhard, can be a fairly quick rise from position coach to DC (2nd year) to HC (6th yr), even if on interim basis.

And only coaching experience Sanders had before becoming the HC at Jackson St. was on the HS level.

i just don’t see him coaching In general, but stranger things have happened

^ Well, unless things change, looks like Trevor won't ever get the chance of a bigger payday (like what Mike Glennon got, despite Siemian being the way better QB), so when he eventually retires, he'll probably keep on working and his best skillset is football, particularly knowing the ins and out of a playbook/scheme.

He has the brain-talent to be a good OC.

Trevor has already made $9.1 million in his NFL career and at least half of his $2million contract for 2013 is guaranteed, so he's getting real close to **** you money.

^ That's not exactly living the life retirement $$, esp after taxes

Plus, don't exactly see Trevor the type to just play golf after his playing days are over.

Speaking of Siemian, the Saints FO made a mistake when they thought Winston was the answer, when Trevor is the QB much more like Brees (w/ the Saints actually having weapons on O this year).

Siemian would also have thrived in the Shanahan O, but Elway passed on Shanny when he let it be known that he liked Siemian better than Elway's prized 1st rnd pick, Lynch.
