Former commit Joe Bamisile back in the news

Reality is he played for 3 different schools in 3 years. And last year, as a junior, he averaged 11 minutes a game for a team that did not even make the tournament. Those are facts.

Folks are just going to be skeptical of whatever reasons he mentions to transfer. And believe probably the NCAA got it right on this one.

He is a student-athlete moving from school-to-school. What does his father's health issue have to do with him playing basketball? Take time away from the court and spend it with him!
He wants to be closer to his father but he doesn't want to completely give up playing college basketball. Transferring to a school closer to home seems like a reasonable compromise. If he has already transferred too many times, then the NCAA can decide what he's allowed to do. But his father's health and playing basketball are probably the two most important things in his life right now. It seems pretty obvious what they have to do with each other.

I just looked at Joe Bam's career. It's fascinating. While he didn't do much at Va Tech or Oklahoma, in between, he had a monster year. In 2021-22, as a sophomore, he averaged 16.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game for GW. He started 29 of 30 games and averaged 31.4 minutes. Yet he transferred to Oklahoma after the season because of mental health challenges. Those problems must have been pretty severe for him to leave a situation like that, at a place just two hours from home. Maybe he wanted to take another shot at the Power Six level. I bet that move hurt his chances at a waiver this time around.

It shows us that you never know what's going on with a kid. His challenges didn't seem to impact his performance on the court that season, that's for sure. Regardless, I wish him and his father well.

Absolutely not saying he's been less than truthful about his situation, but I can imagine the NCAA feeling like he's working his way down the list of reasons they'll provide waivers.

That was also my understanding as to why the waiver was denied. At some point you just stop accepting reasons as truthful and in good faith, boy who cried wolf or not.

Have some perspective. It seems like one of those two things ought to be far more important and in fact so important he should be willing to put the other on hold for.

CappyNU:

You continue to delete anything/everything I post about former NU quarterback Carl Richardson.
I don't get it.
What is the problem?
He is playing football at UW-Platteville.
Pursuing a Masters degree in Sports Administration.
How can you justify deleting that?
How does it violate any policy - this is public information.

My understanding is that your job is to "moderate" the board - to clear out offensive comments.
You are going waaaay beyond that.

Because this is the basketball board, and it's not on topic. A moderator's job is not just to clear out offensive comments, it's to keep the board a place where people want to participate in discussions, and therefore this falls under my purview. I've also made my position incredibly clear regarding the former player and will continue to delete references to him that have no reason to be mentioned. Why do you insist on continuing to drag him into every discussion?

I did not bring Richardson up in this thread. You know that.
Someone contrasted Joe Bamisile with Carl Richardson.
I followed up on that.

but your statement

I've also made my position incredibly clear regarding the former player and will continue to delete references to him that have no reason to be mentioned.

is completely arbitrary and begs the question "Why treat Richardson differently?"
I mean we've had a long-running thread on Ryan Young, Pete Nance, Miller Kopp, etc.
Some people trash those guys at every opportunity and you let that go.
Why is Richardson off limits?

I'd appreciate it if you could put up a thread stating your position on this.

You seem like a smart guy. I don't think you need a thread to understand why he is not treated the same as the basketball players. And you're right, you didn't bring him up, so that post and subsequent ones have been removed as well from this thread.
