So in all of these cases (to the best I can ascertain) where universities have been coerced into action either through freezing money or trying to fire personel....NO specific incidents were cited, or failure to act by universities when something occured...This is Title 6 under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ,stuff which has procedures, none of which have been followed. He is amazing at getting us to take our eye off the ball and fight amongst ourselves....these are free speech issues, and this man is so narcissistic has to not be able to engage with someone who disagrees with him or his bootlickers. and shame on the institutions , educational and legal firms who bowed to this guy...Just for the record I have respect for all cultures and believe every life lost in the Hamas attack and the Israeli response is a tragedy.....one fire after another. I apologize for this ..this is not how I want to spend my time on this board....but just will not say nothing if there is going to be a discussion. While nothing has yet happened at Loyola they are on pins and needles...being a school that focuses on social justice they are more than concerned. Free Speech, right to protest. rule of law ...these are fundamental democratic values that while often irritating when they are not our point of view, have served us well.

Its Rant Board Part 2. The discussion devolves every time. If this thread doesn’t violate Cap’s stated rules of the board nothing does. If the publishers want to resurrect the Rant board do so, but keep it there.

Just no. That’s propaganda. Reports are down 88%. NU has complied to all the strong arm tactics. You don’t have to be an ardent Zionist to be a good Jew just like you don’t need to follow all the tenets of Christianity to be a good gentile apparently. Now being a MAGA cultist is another animal in itself. Being considered a hypocrite should be a general guideline in your daily life and how that reflects in interactions with other humans of different beliefs. Hailing the purple is one thing, but if you’re heil-ing herr Drumpf or Musk after all the recent events please reconsider your what led you to such a skewed worldview.

That article is very scant on details. Who were the experts? What were they arguing? Lawmakers saying there is antisemitism on campus is a no brainer, as lawmakers are performing for their donors. However, a lot of these people will also say organizations like Not in Our Name, and Jewish Voice for Peace (Jewish Organizations) are also antisemitic; basically anything that is against Israel.

Here’s board rules in his own words.

Free boards - should be used to discuss the respective sports, I.e football for football, men's and women's basketball for basketball, and all other sports for the other sports board.
What causes post deletion - unwarranted personal attacks on other posters or players (current or former), racist/hatred/political nonsense designed to inflame, posts that have no other issues but which quote a post that has been deleted.
What causes thread locking - continuous back and forth nonsense because people are unable to resist getting the last word in, a post that has a crapload of cleanup to handle so that it doesn't continue to get out of hand. Threads can be and often are unlocked.

If that’s what they are actually doing, I don’t disagree. But I don’t think there is any thoughtful review of what the funds are being used for being conducted. It’s a stick to change behavior they don’t like. Same thing they are doing with law firms.

Agreed. It’s mostly retaliatory. But, having married into a Jewish (mildly practicing) family, I’m appalled by how Jewish students have been mistreated by these universities.

I notion that this is to battle rampant antisemitism on campuses is just a wolf in sheep's clothing. This admin is full of antisemites. It. is about destroying higher-education. If there are Title VI violation by the university, there are a clear set of procedures to follow before pulling funding. These follow none of those.

The United States made a decision in the first half of the 20th century to collectively invest in research through a federal grants program. As a nation, it was decided that our institutions of higher learning were the vehicle to carry this out. It has since become an engine for innovation and economic development that is the envy of the rest of the world. It was never a partisan issue either. Both Democratic and Republican Presidents and Congress people supported it historically. The private sector certainly plays an essential role in bringing products and services to market, but the foundation they build from is the basic work done at our nation's universities. Private companies don't have the time or money to do the kind of long-term discovery work that is accomplished through federal funding of our universities. It has been a great partnership for the past century.

Now, any system can use periodic reviews to seek out inefficiencies and modernize priorities. But that should be done intelligently with a scalpel. The current approach is more like a nuclear bomb that will weaken not only our universities, but our entire country.

I don't know where you are getting your information from, but everything I'm seeing from multiple sources says that anti-Semitism on college campuses, while down somewhat from a peak a year ago, is still a major and growing problem.

Here is the opening line from an article saying exactly that published just one week ago on MSN.
