Went to the game. Binghamton had 27 points after 10 minutes.
That team in green was more athletic than I expected. They actually looked pretty decent. Not intimidated whatsoever. Played hard.
Coaching staff all dressed in suits and ties! Gotta give them credit for that.
Their point guard (double transfer from Marquette and Syracuse) played 40 minutes and looked good.
Binghamton got a lot of open looks in the first half and at times in the 2nd half. Buie often the culprit, but I think Mullins as well.
NU has not learned how to get the ball inside to the centers and the gameplan didn't seem any different in that regard. Thats disappointing. Still a ton of ballscreens, with Buie driving the lane. Binghamton swarmed him physically nearly every time. Barnhizer tried to get in the paint as much as he could, but very contested. His energy on the court is excellent.
Langborg shoots quickly and has good consistent form, more athletic than I expected. Collins said after game that Langborg has been dealing with a bad ankle. Saw him roll it again during the game - but he got back out there.
Nicholson didn't seem as quick as last year. Maybe it was the white uniforms. But if our guards had lobbed over the top he'd have had 10 more points. Even just driving the lane and tossing the ball up around the basket would have worked. Barnhizer has a scorer's mindset, which we need, but so far he's going to put it up against two defenders. Hopefully the game tape shows some of the missed opportunities.
Clayton showed more than Mullins and it looks like he will be the backup point guard. Coach Lowery gave him a big hug when he came out of the game towards the end. So Clayton's the freshman who will be playing.
Martinelli played limited minutes because trainers restricted him, according to Collins postgame radio interview.
Also in that interview, Collins praised Preston, saying "Yeah he played well. What was he, plus 12 in 14 minutes? Thats really good. We're counting on Big Matt and him to play that position."
Oh the +/-... how encouraging that Collins knew the numbers immediately after the game and cited it to compliment his backup center.
On the other hand, it sounds like Luke Hunger will be playing the 4 or not at all.
