Game Thread for Rutgers vs. NU

When is a win not a win. I find no joy in that game other than hoping the players feel a little better than if they had lost. As a fan, it was depressing.

LOL Collins imploring the crowd to get loud

Maybe tonight will be the night when Collins puts a little of the blame on himself. I doubt it though.

Are we lucky or what. It's a win but I am really disappointed.I will feel better in about an hour as my dinner just came up on me.Seriously, will this ever get better under Collins. We will see but we won now enjoy the next couple of days and we better not lose to Nebby.

Agreed. I thought Buie had exorcised his FT demons when he hit the first 1 and 1 pair. Nope. Crucial miss that damn near cost us. He has to figure that out. Misses are always long too.

Audige did one good thing the past 30 minutes and that was hitting the corner 3 to start OT. Otherwise he was brutally awful.

Come on. This snaps a brutal 4-game skid against three ranked opponents and positions NU to win back-to-back conference games for the first time this season on the road in Lincoln.

That is much better than the alternative, another crushing loss.

In reality it was a crushing win. It showed that no lead is safe and that were totally unable to adapt when a curveball is thrown at us.

He had 0 turnovers in the first half and 7 in the second. I love Audige but that half was horrible.
Some of those turnovers he had nobody around him, he just stepped out of bounds, shuffled his feet, etc. It was pretty staggering how he went from being seemingly very comfortable and in control, to completely out of his element. It seemed like every bad play he made, he tried to make up for it, which made things worse.

Except he did hit a huge 3 in overtime to give us the lead after Rutgers had their first lead of the night. He can be a maddening player but he has talent. That speaks to a lot of the Cats. Beran had a nice game. Scored some and held down Harper but then in the final minute he makes a crucial error not going up for a shot in close with the shot clock in the red and instead tossing it back outside. Young did the same thing in OT. Nebraska will not be an easy game. Bryce McGowens has been demonstrating his 5-star talent the last five games and Nebraska has been playing everyone close lately just like the Cats have. This league is brutally tough. I don't know if it's good or bad that they blew a late lead at Michigan just like we did.

Geo Baker is the 2nd best scorer for RU, played 38 minutes and scored 0 point while guarded by Audige.

I'm no basketball savant but to my untrained eye he plays awesome defense. His offense is just erratic and infuriating
Which typically is a function of his shot selection. When he plays within the offensive flow he’s usually pretty good at that end. For better or worse he also seems to be a streak shooter. Comes and goes but when he’s hot he can hit 4-5 in a row. Valuable player but if he’s one of your best the offense will be inconsistent

On the topic of Audige — I just plain like the guy. He plays with energy and emotion and fearlessness. Late in the second half, he missed a shot badly, rolled his eyes at himself. The guy in front of me, 4th row, yells encouragingly “you got this Chase, keep playing hard.” Chase looks up, sees the guy, gives him a thumbs up, goes back to playing his ass off. I just plain like the guy.

I love his athleticism. I trust him against a press more than anyone (Boo too, but prefer Chase). I can live with his occasional brain farts on shot selection.

I truly wish he could get some time at the ‘lead’ with Boo off the ball. When Audige rotates the ball and has his feet set, he’s a good shooter.

But if Collins hasn’t picked up that tip from me yet, I doubt he ever will. 😂😂
