Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Dayton

The offenssive foul call on Big Matt was questionable… The call on Martinelli was an absolute joke!

Very shaky bringing the ball up the court when the game gets tight. Like we used to see in the pre-Boo days. Still, Cats up three, but it's getting too close for comfort.

Leach is not a good ball handler.

We have no one who can shoot the three except for Nick

In theory Berry is our knock down shooter. You know, that guy with 0 points tonight

Jello has a good shot and is playing confidently for a freshman. I don’t mind him shooting more.

Much like Nicholson he looks nowhere near the player he was last year
Maybe because they both missed a ton of time and are getting back into the swing of the game? Not that hard to figure out.

KJ hurting us down the stretch with freshman plays.

Look, it's clear and obvious what this team doesn't have: Boo.

They are playing tight and sloppy and just don't have an obvious leader...yet. Martinelli is doing his best, but when Brooks is hurt and Berry/Nicholson are still getting up to speed, it's not enough. Cats might steal this one yet, but they really have struggled in the second half.

Yeah, didn't like his hero ball that lead to jumping in the air with nowhere to go except a turnover. That was painful.

One man offense isn't going to win much. UIC could be a tough out Tuesday if we don't find some more scorers!

Looks like NU will be the first Big Ten team to lose this year.

Zero mental toughness when things started going against them (the ticky tack offensive foul calls). Skittish and boneheaded under pressure. The good news is the first 25 minutes happened. Let’s hope they use this game to prepare for the rest of the games this season especially with Barnheiser coming back.

First half looks pretty good the second half was not very good at all. Dayton defense was astounding though I think the referees let them play way too close

Do you think the refs were missing contact? I thought the D from Dayton was good, but some of the fouls on NU were questionable. But I don't think they were letting Dayton hack the 'Cats.

Windham heating up - made his last two, including a sweet drive.

(as I type, he missed a three on a fast break).

Windham was much better Monday, but I still love how fearless he is. It's going to be fun to root for him and Jello the next four years.
I do like how aggressive he was from a standpoint of not being afraid in his second game ever. He also has to play well when he does that. I have faith that he will get there.

Career high for Martinelli tonight, but also: six turnovers. I'm not going to blame him. Some of those turnovers are likely due to his sore back from carrying the team tonight.

Not worried, I think our team is good and kind of felt like we let this one get away. We need to work on breaking the press.

Ballhandling in general was so shaky, right from the jump. Passing was off too, lots of indecision and then bad decisions.

Martinelli is next level now. Ciaravino is superb; his athleticism demands floor time but his awareness and shooting will mean major minutes.

KJ was good but made freshman mistakes. He showed he belongs. Berry and Leach just really struggled no two ways about it. Mullins did a lot of good things but his shooting was way off. If that improves he'll play a bunch this year.
