Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Michigan

The defense and offense, and coaching, have all sucked today. NU football's version of tastes great, less filling.
Lausch had time on all three of those last passes and each one was worse than the last. Terrible passes I'm starting to think he's not the quarterback for our team in the future. Maybe that young guy Boe is the guy

You're just starting to think that now?

I’m sorry, but for a guy who is an athlete, Lausch’s reads in the option and RPO game are completely horrible. Like godawful. He makes the wrong reads frequently. These are the simplest reads in modern football, it’s not gonna work like this.
On his boneheaded int on the opening drive he probably could've run for a first down but instead inexplicably threw into triple coverage. Really not ready at this level. Maybe he has PTSD and just overthinks things but his instincts at times seem worse than in his first start.

Your conclusion will not play well with the "he's still developing as a QB" or "what game have you been watching???" posters.

I think many of us like Lausch and want to see him succeed as a Chicagoland QB we recruited and developed out of HS. Tried to see growth in the Maryland game and first half of OSU. But the trajectory is not looking good after starting most of the season. Even with some improvement next year I don’t think it will be enough to generate enough points per game to compete.

If Lausch ever plays QB for Northwestern again after next week, then this program is sunk

My God are rushing defense is atrocious. Sure seems that the defense has given up

I thought the game against Washington was bad but this is clearly the worst game of the year. Anyone who thinks we're going to be Illinois next week needs to get a psychiatric check up.

Until today Michigan only scored 30 points once this season, in their season opener against Fresno State 30-10. Let that sink in after they just scored again to go up 38-6 at the start of the 4th.

To state the obvious, embarrassing! With a year's growth, I sure hope the cats are better next year. and make a bowl. Well, there's still Illinois.

THe defense has been the side that has torched this game. It was 10-6 late in the first half and the defense gave up a disaster late TD and then another coming off the full rest of halftime. No excuses of being on the field for those tuddies, just getting steamrolled by a bad offense that still has better athletes.
Well, much of the time, and except when it counted. Still the offensive impotence is the main problem, deflating the defense.

Oh, we'll be worse next year. Losing our only playmakers

Can we try out Boe? Seriously, I asked to see Boe like after week 3 or 4. Lausch has not improved at all over the course of the season. In fairness it isn't all his fault, but he doesn't look like a guy that can take the team over the hump. Lujan needs to be put on notice and step it up. I was expecting them to lose today, but not to be totally blown out of the water so to speak. Quite frankly, we don't deserve a bowl this season. Illinois should win next weekend hands down. They had a nice little comeback vs Rutgers. This is sad, most of us were really optimistic coming into the season, or at least hopeful. This is going to be a lengthy rebuild unfortunately.

And if transfers and NIL are not used to fullest extent possible we will continue to be a bad team with over a billion dollars in beautiful facilities. It makes zero sense.

Well, that was the ‘play of the game.’

In the future, that safety will be what I remember of this afternoon.

Playing Hilinski convinces me that Lujan is an idiot with no clue.

What playmakers? Seriously, what playmakers? That is the whole reason we are sucking up a storm. We probably won't be competitive til after Braun is shown the door and a proven CFB coach is hired, or at least a proven CFB OC.

That is the only thing that will turn it around at this point, plus the hiring of a really good CFB HC and/or OC. Lujan isn't getting the job done thus far. This season he is making McCall look like a great OC!

Their big guys just bullied our big guys. I still can’t believe NU hired from within for the strength and conditioning role. New blood needed.

Also we’ll lose some key players to the portal. That’s a given at this point.
Key players? Cat, we are deficient all around in terms of playmakers. You aren't going to get real playmakers without something tangible to bring them into the program. I think we need to bring in a Cignetti type of guy in here to attract better players. I am not sure we are going to ever go bowling again with this coaching staff. Lujan comes off as a mere amateur and obviously not ready for prime time. Not sure about Braun either. The only hope this program has is if the board of directors and the president get on board with NIL. Mr. Ryan hopefully will help out if he really wants the program to flourish, unless he is just a huge narcissist that wants his name on everything.

The emotional decision to make Braun the permanent head coach was a mistake, but I guess we're buying time until the new stadium is ready. But this is a poorly coached team.

Note to self - Don't let the legal team handling the Fitzgerald lawsuit make coaching decisions.

Serious question - Is Pat Fitzgerald overjoyed or devastated by the apparent collapse of football at Northwestern?
