Northwestern (10-5, 1-3 Big Ten) hosts No. 16 Michigan State (13-2, 4-0 Big Ten) today at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The game is set for an 11 am tip and will air on Fox.

Good crowd so far. NU has mounted spotlights at either end of the arena on the sides and today they are constantly flashing down my aisle, blinding me from both sides. I might lose my mind if they don’t stop when the game starts.

Go Cats. We need this one.

No Hunger means either extended Fitzmorris or small ball today. Or both.

Does anybody else *still* giggle when Martinelli does something like make a 15-foot one-handed leaner? What a weird wonderful player.
I don't quite giggle, but I sure smile. We've never had one like him.

Nice to see the Cats get off to a decent start for the first time in a few games.

Martinelli's got his floater working so far today.
Seems to be rushing (in a good way) to getting his shots before the double comes. Definitely more of a sense of urgency from him than he had against Purdue.

He's so spazzy. All arms and legs everywhere. Michigan State probably isn't used to guys like him. Seems like the kind of game he'd inexplicably get like eight points.
Out of position when the big dude missed a layup, but he chased hard and scared him.

Leach is really important to this team. “Barney pulls up” isn’t a great approach.

Edit: Leach drives his shoulder to a dude then returns to the bench is also not great.

It doesn’t even feel like a run. A few NU turnovers , sure, but no breakaways. Mostly empty-empty-empty for NU and score-score-score for MSU.

“Make shots!”
Helps to have 5 guys who can all shoot rather than 3 who are streaky.
