Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Washington

Windham showing some nice vision here in the second half. Didn't love his three-point attempt, but he has a couple of nifty assists.

KJ attacking the gaps in the zone very well. Washington did the same 1-3-1 when he came into the game in the 1st

We can’t win this game if we can’t keep a mediocre WA team below an 80 pt game pace.

I understand, but Collins was obviously trying to make a statement. He wasn't going to put up with that ref anymore. By the way, that ref Jeffrey Anderson is internet famous. He's known as "High Knees" and is universally hated because he's so bad.
Apparently, he set a screen for Ace Bailey in their game against Illinois and just laughed it off after the score. What a stud.

Cats losing 26-16 on the boards, including 8-to-3 on offensive rebounds. USC must be baffled by those figures.

Well....not too much but I just didn't like the meltdown. This game is winnable and you just gave the other team 6 points plus got yourself a one way ticket to the locker room.
Really poor perspective here actually. Protect your team and show them you have your back. Not his fault the ref is inept.

Does NU keep track of career dunks? I wonder if Nicholson passed Pardon on the all-time list. Surely he has by now.

Very strange comment.
Why? This isn’t an isolated incident. We’ve failed to make the key plays in the closing minutes over and over this season. That’s not physical. That’s mental. We compete for 38 minutes. What’s different about the last two?

Clayton actually did alright in tge 2nd half. He was wide open when we were up one and Mart triple teamed. Wish he'd had the chance to shoot that one. He'd just made two outside jumpers.

Um, your defense of Collins getting kicked out in this situation - on the road, lineup in chaos, young guys playing - the team (presumably) needs their coach to not get kicked out.
Your take is dumb.
Understand now?
Collins doesn’t control the idiot ref and his guys need to understand he fights for them no matter what. Not sure you’re appreciating the realities of high level coaching vs. just being a lineup/XOs game manager. There’s wayyyy more to it than that.

Well, this time Jordan Clayton was on the court.
Last game it was Blake Smith.
Unfathomable to me.
Yes, it matters who is playing - if you want composure and execution in crunch time - I'd suggest not playing guys who never play.

It’s strange because we are out manned by a lot in terms of talent and are in games we have no business being in. The team fights. Plays hards and now has one go to guy that gets triple teamed. This isn’t close to the best team we’ve had over the last decade, but it is right up there with the toughest.

He can't give Washington 4 free throws and get tossed.
You just cannot do that - I don't care how bad the ref is.
The guys already know he fights for them, so thats not a factor whatsoever.
Bark without getting t'd up.

Another tough road loss. Had a 4 pt. lead coming down the stretch and couldn't close it out just like all the other losses we have suffered on the road this year.
The guys played hard no doubt but their are no moral victories. A loss is a loss.
Clayton made a couple of shots which I was happy for him. Mullins knocked down some 3's. Martinelli is a bull and Berry hustled all night long.
The officiating and Collins getting tossed. We'll let's just say there are a couple of refs in the BIG who should just not be allowed to be on the court.
On to Oregon Tuesday night. Go Cats

Oddly it was our best player who lost his composure down the stretch. An inexcusable turnover and then a heave against a triple team with plenty of time left on the shot clock and a teammate wide open on the left wing.

Yeah but I'm sure you noticed that Washington was a hot mess.
We should have beaten them.

Right on queue. I guess coach Lowrey is just as incompetent as CCC. I keep trying to figure out who you would have in the game and still puzzles me how you can’t see that the Frosh kill this team when they are in there. Clayton played better than KJ. Smith played better than Gelo.

Berry had a couple dumb fouls and took a couple bad shots in crunch time as well.
