Congratulations to your Ramblers on winning the MVC tourney and punching their ticket to the Dance. I really like their style of play: pinpoint passing, sharp shooting, great spacing, fantastic defence with minimal fouls. So well coached. Predicted to be as high as an 11th seed.

Thanks,,,,,It has been such a long time.!!!!!! They are a great group of kids..and they do play old school basketball....it is defense first. They remind me of NUs team last year....and they kind of have to play that way as there are no great players on the team....One thing Coach Moser does is pull a kid , no matter who they are, no matter what the time in the game if they 1. make a defensive mistake or 2. Take a bad shot early in the clock,,,,,out they come. But thanks and next year NU and LU !!!!!!

Amen to that!
It's a pleasure to watch a team of unselfish, lunch-bucket type players like Loyola. Reminds me of their '65/'66 team in that way.

Here's to them doing their own NCAA Dance Marathon!

Enjoy the ride. Ramble on. We will support you all the way. Great stories in the Tribune about your coach and players this week. Congrats and best of luck.

This seems to be generational for NU....sure hope we can change that!...I was 10 when they won the championship in 63 and my brother lived in the ONLY dorm on campus.,,,in 85 I was a Dad with 2 young kids and not much time to follow or enjoy and now 5 grandkids with tons of time and got to see every game down in St, Louis and even though it is about a 140 mile round trip to games on campus got to 10........So if we have to wait another generation.Im in trouble.
Came away from St. Louis with three thoughts.....1. The real Conference Champ is the one that is atop the standings at the end of the year...home and away through the grind of four months...The tournament is just about money and is an abnormal little compacting of games that I do not think shows the true champ....but aint going to change..as usual money shouts. 2. Double the teams in the NCAA tournament....too many good teams get left out....not teams that would have a chance to win the whole shebang but that deserve a chance to go and win one or two.Chances are LU would not have gotten an at-large bid this year if they had not won the tournament.
Thanks to those on this board who have graciously allowed me to throw in some LU stuff occasionally,,,,I truly am passionate about NU as well.......had two girlfriends in college,,,that really didnt work out well.......This has !...3. It helps for all the Chicago area teams to do well. I remember when this was a college basketball town. I have a program from the old Chicago Stadium , 1949, Depaul vs Illinois Northwestern vs Notre Dame......sold out

definitely agree that the conference tournaments are just a money grab. Also loved those Stadium doubleheaders. Just noticed this stat, the not one Loyola player fouled out for the entire season, wow. Go Ramblers!

L-Cat, let's bring the discussion back to NU for a moment.

What do you think the Ramblers do well that NU doesn't? There were some things I really admired in their games this weekend.

I have my ideas, but I'd like to hear your comments first.

First off....The Valley is not the Big Ten...very competitive , good coaches,,,,some really good players , but not as athletic or big...THe Ramblers play defense to the point where it is an art form. They almost always take away the top scorer out of the equation....and they double team to the max and then have the hustle to recover to cover the skip pass to the ungaurded player ready to shoot the three.....they hedge and really prevent the other team from moving the ball side to side...and they all rebound on the defensive boards...many times there is no one in the game over 6'5. and they communicate...they are talking constantly on defense.give up very few transition points...and if a player makes a defensive mental mistake they are out of the game....no matter who..no matter when. and I think they really take pride in playing defense. We brought in one of the top 5 Junior College scorers from last year and he does not play because he does not play defense.
On offense,,,,,they seldom take the first shot available...If a guy takes a quick shot that is not high percentage...out they go...I remember one game this year...Cammeron Satterwhite got an outlet pass and put up a long 3( in a game we were up by 18)...I swear Coach Moser took him out of the game before the clock stopped! But they really move the ball...and get high percentage shots at the basket. At most times they have 4 players who can dribble/drive to the hoop....which I thought NU struggled with this year....Against UIC I think LU had 29 assists. They have had many games with a high percentage of assists to baskets. and they do not turn the ball over...most games double the assists to turnovers. I would be remiss to say that the freshman have really made a difference...specifically Cameron Krutwig from ALgonquin Jacobs. He is really the first true post player(6'9) at LU since Coach Moser has been herel We have often had to play 6'4 and 6'5 post players the past few years.
but most important,,just like NU last year they just had that internal mojo going that just carried them through tight games...One last thing,,,their two gaurds Custer and Richardson have played together since early grade school. On a side not I often wonder how the departure of Coach Baldwin effected the Cats this year...does anyone know what his responsibilities were last year.....Hope next year I am worried cuz the Cats and Ramblers are both in the dance,,,,,,wont be able to watch. Thanks for letting me talk about the Ramblers a little bit.

I was really impressed with Krutwig's passing ability and court awareness. He would receive a pass in the blocks and fire it to a teammate in the opposite corner almost as soon as it touched his hands. The defense didn't have time to react, enabling his teammate to get a clean look at the basket and a virtually uncontested "3." Cam reminded me of Tom Boerwinkle in that regard.

It's obvious from watching just a few games that the Valley is not the B10, but there are still some things Loyola does that I really admired this weekend that can translate.

I didn't see what you see on defense. I'll take your word for it. But they really shut down Bradley's leading scorer on Saturday which plays right to what you said.

On offense, I so admire not just that they share the ball, but how they do it. Krutwig is a hell of a passer for a senior, even though he's a freshman.

Yes, they move the ball quickly, but unlike NU, they recognize things AWFULLY quickly. They knew EXACTLY where they wanted to go out of a double team. They also knew where their open man was.

Lastly, a huge majority of their passes arrive in easy shooting position. You can tell Moser coaches them to not only make the pass, but where it's easily received.

Fun stuff to watch. I'm looking forward to next week.

What if LU plays next Saturday on St. Patrick's Day? You're going to bring back the old mascot, right?

Tom Boerwinkle? I was a toddler when he played and I’m old.

Do you remember at the beginning of the year when we had that top secret scrimmage game and the rumors were they handed us our lunch? We didn’t want to believe it then or shrugged it off as if we weren’t putting in a top effort. Think the rumors might have been the truth.

Squeeze? Not so sure. I once visited with my wife to her parents' church one Sunday morning. Tom Boerwinkle happened to be sitting in front of me. The only word that came to mind was: Eclipse!

Ahh Yes Bo Rambler the homeless bum.....there is an underground movement to bring Bo back......I belong to a group that gets together every month called Bo Ramblers.......The University wanted a classier mascot and came up with some far fetched story connected to St.Ignatius , the Kettle and the Wolf,https://www.luc.edu/wolf+kettle/The_legend.shtml. I think propaganda at its finest.

^ Gonna jump on the bandwagon as they are a program that is doing things the right way and have fond memories of my time at Loyola - or rather, the bars around campus (had more fun there than at the bars near DePaul).

I think that is where we are going to watch the game...at the the old Hamiltons.....Having a hard time getting used to the publicity and the anxiety of hopes and expectations....but I think I can adapt.

Have run into Loyola students at NU football games who said they come up because LU doesn’t have a team. There is also a possibility it was for the tailgating too.

Just saw that's going to be on Tru TV. Help in finding it needed.

I filled out my ESPN bracket and picked Loyola for some upsets. Go Ramblers!

OK, LoyolaCat, here's the big question.

I can very easily see Loyola beating Miami. I love Loyola's consistency against Miami's inconsistency.

Do you legitimately have enough confidence in Loyola to pick them in your bracket against Tennessee? I somewhat do.

As an aside, I think that half of a region is going to blow up.

I am a worrier by nature......and think we are going to loose when we play Lewis......Miami scares me because they are so athletic.....and do not know much about Tennessee....The strength of this team this year has been defense and getting good high percentage shots....We really do not have a create your own shot kind of guy....we get good shots cuz we move and share the ball. When we have struggles this year it has been against either really quick point guards who can create their own shots. or against really good centers who have neutralized Krutwig....Miami has both....So I am not going to be much help....am just going to try and enjoy...I had more confidence in the Cats last year to get through the first two rounds than I have the Ramblers this year. I will say this about the Ramblers...they do not flinch.
I hope the Ramblers do not let any of you guys down.

Looks like the Ramblers are only 1&1/2 point dogs.

Yeah, Hamiltons was one of the places.

Funny how I used to imbibe at Hamiltons (which had a nice atmosphere), but never stepped foot in The Keg (for those who have - did I miss anything?).

Anyhow LC - a belated congrats on the run to the FF!

Yeah, Hamiltons was one of the places.
Ended up at Hamiltons ,which is now called 63"s for 3 of the games.......Was packed shoulder to shoulder and noise was deafening.standing room only...first two games had to be way over the max limit..was a great atmosphere non-stop chanting...by the 4th game ..we got there 3 hours early and could not get in...the line was already 50 deep. It is kind of the same place....a little cleaner and dressed up a bit...but same original bar and booths . Overall was a great experience that frankly thought I would never see......Next year Cats.....For those of you who engaged in some LU talk thanks....it was kind of having the wife and the mistress at a cocktail party
