Collins thrown out of the Washington game by High Knees referee Jeffrey Anderson. Worst ref in the country.

The same clown who set a pick in the Rutgers Illannoys game.

What does "high knees" mean? Seems like an oddly specific nickname, but I just don't know...

Report is he has a bad back and was told by the doc to keep as vertical as possible and high step for his health, so he runs with a weird posture and high steps.

I was at the game. The problems started during a timeout during which CC spent the whole time yelling at High Knees instead of taking to the team. HK then basically said if you aren’t going to spend your timeout coaching your team then the timeout is over, and he started waving our guys back on the floor while UW was still at their bench.

Then when CC got run he just waited patiently at the table while HK was talking to the scoring people and then let him have it before leaving the floor. Then 3 cops showed up for some reason.

James and Lowery then each got warned a couple times to cool it later in the game, by a different ref.

And I get frustration for CC but those are 6 big points on the FTs and the extra possession. Any benefit gained from the display is erased by the fact that we could’ve won the game without it.

I don't see that, but I wasn't there.

The Cats took the lead at the end of the game and couldn't hold onto it. But it isn't like that six points and possession turned the game into a rout from which they couldn't recover.

He's had a rough month and he's already seen one of his guys get knocked out for the season by overly aggressive defenders the refs failed to reign in during play. it seems more like too much frustration and emotion boiling over rather than some cagey strategy to fire up his team and show he's trying to defend them.

Why do they call him “High Knees?” Does he have some sort of physical deformity? Or maybe he walks like a duck?
He walks with bringing his knees up very high. Apparently had some injury and was told that this way would be better for him. Overall I’m tired of knowing the personal lives of the refs. Their goal should be to essentially be anonymous. How can the big ten continue with some of these guys ???

So it didn't become a rout. Those six points would have counted just as much at the end as they did earlier. The 4 point lead late would have been 10 points. Kinda think we win.

I am confused. How did the technicals cost us six points and a possession? Washington already had possession when CCC got T’d up and then got four free throws before getting the ball back.

Honestly, I have always hated this argument. It assumes the game plays out exactly the same without the Technicals. There was 3/4 of a game left not 39 seconds. You literally can point to any cycle in the game or even possession and say we would have won if this went differently. It’s an argument that can’t be proved either way, so each of us have our own interpretation.

We would have won if Ty hit 2 more 3’s. If Big Matt secured more rebounds, if Nick was better at passing out of triple team, if the Freshman scored 7 points between them, etc etc etc.

For all we know, we could have continued being abused by the Ref’s at the same rate, or maybe folded our tent because our Staff doesn’t fight for us, why should we fight for them.

💯 game is not static. Unless it happens in, say, the two last minutes you can’t possibly say missing or making free throws in the first half costs or wins games.

Also I’m a guy who will not crucify a coach for making a statement protecting his players. In this case all I would argue is that this maybe should have happened like 5 to 8 game ago.

Thanks for the explanation. My questions were tongue in cheek. I hope High Knees is living his best life--outside of referee work.

I don't blame Collins for blowing his top after that. Not after the week he had.

I myself am in a pretty dark place as a Northwestern hoops fan. Just wondering why can't nice things right now. I am not really religious, but do I have a deep well of faith in the sense that there is something bigger and better than all of us, and just efforts and deeds will be rewarded. My faith is being tested.

The thing that can make the final games palatable for me are seeing our freshman played well, seeing our seniors go out with dignity, and snagging a couple more wins.

I just put in a real prayer for people who work hard to experience evidence of rewards for their work, especially the Northwestern Men’s BB team. Let’s see what happens.

Quite possibly. UW is a bottom 3 team. Really good chance we win without that. And really, what's the point? Referees don't just say "oh, I suck, I'd better change!"

That’s a mistake by me, I thought it was our ball.

What gets me is aren't these refs graded like in the NFL. If a ref is bad there should be some ramifications. To keep putting an incompetent out on the court serves no purpose other then to allow him to keep screwing up. And high knees screwed up last night and screwed NU in the process. We have been on the short end of these calls by the refs far too many times this year.

Pretty sure that coaches get to send in evaluations after each game...for what end result I dont know..anyone know if this is true and if their are any ramifications for refs with bad evaluations?

I doubt there will be any accountability. These refs are all old hacks who can’t keep up with the modern game and who love the camera. Ridiculous and it hurts the game.

I think Anderson is the ref who called a jump ball (despite the Washington player not actually touching the ball) with about 45 seconds left and NU down 2 when Clayton got the steal and called timeout. That ended up being a big missed call because Washington retained possession and got a layup from Osobor (made possible by the uncalled travel) to go up 4.

We had the ball. It was two techs and posession and they hit all four FTs and then scored 2 on the possession that they would not have had

The bad refs seem to take delight in calling premature jump balls if the opposing team even touches the ball. Amazing duel sequence of incompetence as stated above!

Real good chance we win if Leach had not had his season ended the way it was, And to be called for traveling on that play??? Fact is we have been the victims of a lot of shitty reffing over this season, Happens every year but this year is seems especially bad. Some really unbelievably bad calls. Pretty hard to play against the other team and the refs. I know and expect some calls will be mistakes and go against us. Happens to every team. But this year it has seemed especially bad. How many games have we seen decided by the refs? I can name a few
