How about that defense

No - can’t. On a liveaboard and my internet is slow or nonexistent. I can when I get back.
Fine....

2022:

Northwestern threw 17 interceptions and lost 13 fumbles for a total of 30.

Our defense had only 6 interceptions and recovered 6 fumbles for a total of 12.

I guess that's -18, though I thought the WGN guys on Saturday said we were -19 last year.

2023:

Northwestern has thrown 5 interceptions and only lost 1 fumble.

Our defense already has as many interceptions through October as we had all year last year, 6. We have recovered 3 fumbles.

That puts us at +3 so far. So, while I think the defense is on pace to do better this year, I would agree with you that the biggest difference this year is our offense is taking better care of the ball.

We hold these truths to be self-evident...

The defense has improved fairly dramatically despite the loss of personnel.
The new defensive coordinator / interim head coach deserves credit.
Our secondary is pretty good and tackles aggressively.
Linebackers miss tackles from time to time.
Pat Fitzgerald recruited everyone on the team.
The interim head coach was thrown into a situation where he was expected to fail miserably.
