How is it we only really have 3 guards on the roster?

I'm worried about our lack of depth at guard. Mac and Demps have to play almost every minute.

Ash seems to look better every game. Lindsey can also play the 2. That said, either Demps or BMac will always be on the floor this season. Maybe in garbage time he'll have both out at the same time...otherwise, no.

Good to get Ash time at the point. He didn't look real confident running the show.

I'd rather have our guards than only others in the Big Ten, including Indiana's who I think are terrific. It's been a ton of fun to watch Tre and now BMac develop.

Isn't Lindsey playing SG also? Ash plays both PG and SG. I think Law was slated to play some minutes at SG this year and you also have to figure on the Vasser No. 13 scholarship spot that is a voided position. The roster is balanced with 3 Centers (Olah, Van Zegeren and Pardon), 5 forwards (Falzon, Lumpkin, Skelly, Taphorn and Law) and 4 guards (McIntosh, Demps, Ash, Lindsey). It is also possible for Lumpkin to guard big guards (6'6") range like Shields on 12/30 at Nebby-town or UNL as they should be called. They beat Tennessee last night and it will be a key battle game on 12/30. We need to step up and beat UNL after losses in the past two seasons and the rent-a-player Petteway. Petteway valued a UNL degree so much that he left and turned pro and did not get drafted.

From a macro-level: How about a NU football team that is 10-2 and a basketball team that is 5-1! Two of the best coaches in the Big 10 and in the country (IMHO) who are both young, energetic and charismatic with a NU President Morton Shapiro who understands the importance of having strong sports programs. We are in a golden age of NU sports particularly in the two majors (football and basketball).

Indiana's guards are overrated - especially Ferrell.

I bet Crean is wishing now he'd extended McIntosh a offer. BMac might not be as athletic as those 3, but he's WAY more polished. Wish him and Trey had more depth behind them, but the lesson from the end of last season (where the grind of the B1G took it's toll) seems to have been addressed in off-season workouts. Barring injury, I think the guards will be able to play 30+ minutes without wearing out.

This problem isn't going away with recruiting, either. Isiah Brown is the only guard we have in the '16 class, and Demps is graduating. B-Mac and Tre are in the conversation for the conference's best back court, but we are dangerously thin behind them.

NU will have three guards who can handle the PG duties next year: McIntosh, Ash and Isiah Brown. The SGs are Lindsey and Law can play minutes at SG. Also Jordan Ash and Isiah Brown have been described as combo guards which means that they can play both guard positions. Also, McIntosh can play spot minutes at SG next season. Lastly, if Lumpkin comes back for a 5th season since he has a red shirt year, he can play shut down defense at 6'5" at SG which is the position he was recruited for. So no, we are not dangerously thin at guard next season. For 2017, we are recruiting PG Nojel Eastern at 6'5", 190 lbs. who is ranked the #47 recruit in the country.

Ash did not look comfortable at all on the point in the last six minutes vs. New Orleans. Hopefully he'll get better with experience.. I believe he was mostly a 2-guard at St. Joes. Needs work on his ballhandling.
