How to watch NU vs Rutgers on Sept 3?

The only game I'm concerned about is Iowa, and that might cause me to return to one of my old sports bar haunts. Can't drink as much beer as I used to be able to handle though. 😂 Are you attending any home games? I'll be at the home opener and you are most welcome to stop by our tailgate in the West Lot if you'll be there
NC, if you find a bar in your neck of the woods that is playing the NU/Iowa game, you will be elevated to God-like status in my book.

CBS Sports or the main broadcast network?

This thread seems much ado about nothing. I’m pretty sure it’s the national game on the main CBS network. Only game of the day at noon and only one of three that day. There will be a lot of eyes on us come Sunday (for better or worse).

Still trying to understand Peacock and options for the Iowa game.

If I am correct you first have to have a streaming service, such as Hulu, Fubo, etc., and pay for that. Then if that streaming service offers Peacock you may have to pay extra for it depending on what tier you want to watch.

The free Peacock tier does not include sports. To get sports you have to upgrade to either Premium for $5.99 per month, which includes extra advertising, or Premium Plus for $11.99 per month that does not include advertising.

With Premium Plus you will still see any network advertising that is part of the broadcast, but there will no extra ads inserted by Peacock.

Have I got all of that right?
Peacock started out as free on my area Comcast cable, but now you have to pay for a lot of the stuff as you mentioned. They've bundled Turner Classic Movies, which doesn't charge for their service, into a "bundle" that you have to pay extra to get. I now don't get TCM because I refuse to pay extra for what should be a free service. All of these services are cheap until you add up the number of them you actually need to have to get what you want. The days when I could watch the entire Cubs home schedule on WGN are long gone.

I'm sorry you feel that this tread has been about nothing. I'm the one who strarted it because it wasn't clear to me with all of the new TV network changes for the CATS how I was going to be able to watch all of the games throughout the season.

Perhaps to everyone else it was clear and I'm just a TV retrard. That is certainly posiblle. However, thanks to the patience and contributions of a few here I now know what to do to watch all of the games. And perhaps it has helped some others as well.

Sorry, no respect intended. I thought you were asking how to watch the Rutgers game. The answer is simple…it’s the national game of the day on your local CBS affiliate. If you can watch Survivor, Young Sheldon and/or 60 Minutes you’ll be able to watch the game on Sunday at noon (EST).

Thanks. As I said, I really am a TV retard.

We stopped our Dish subscription months ago because we just weren't watching anything with it. We don't watch any of the programs you mentioned or anything else like them. It's now just Netflix and DVDs from the local library.

So that's what brought me to find the least expensive way to watch the CATS just for this fall. And so far it looks like the answer is going to be YouTubeTV.

Does anyone know if you can just subscribe to the Big Ten Network? I am trying to figure out if I can see all the games I want this year without having to subscribe to a tv package like Hulu Live or YouTube TV. I don't need all the extra stuff. I have enough content on all the other streaming services.

As far as I can tell you are going to need CBS for Rutgers, ACCN for Duke, and Peacock for Iowa. Many of the others I'm sure will be on BTN, but the full schedule has not been published, yet.

And it looks like ESPN and all of its derivatives are completely out for the BigTen this year, so you can probably forget about those.

I'm the same. Haven't had cable, dish or any network TV for 10 years, except during CFB, sometimes CBB when we have Hulu for CFB/CBB only. Otherwise we don't watch Hulu or any network stuff. Might keep it all year 2024 for election stuff.

Not going to the game?

Ah the ACC network. I have so many streaming channels, I thought I might get away with it. However, the more I thought about it, the realization came to me that I would still need the DVR function, so I will have to break down and go back with Hulu with live TV. I usually keep it until the end of College BB season.

Whatever you do for the Wrigley game will be much cheaper and give you a better view than buying a grossly overpriced ticket with a bad view of the field.

I've been to both Wrigley games and I never had a problem following what was happening on the field.

I looked at most of those and the best deal right now appears to be YouTubeTV.

Only $65/month for the first 3 months, which will cover the football season. They also include ACCN. You can cancel any time you want.

Any thoughts on YouTubeTV or reason to not use it.
I dumped DirecTV for YouTubeTV a few years ago. At the time YouTubeTV was the best streamer option for sports nets, locals, news, etc. I think it still is. Plus you get an online DVR with significant storage. No (bullshit fee) set top boxes required, and can be accessed / watch on any devices with Internet access. Only downside is that if your Internet goes out, then you're SOL. Oh, YouTubeTV does carry ACCN.

I probably would have gone with YouTube, but I already have regular Hulu and Disney+ package thing, so I will just stick with it and add live TV. . I will sign up on the 1st and cancel right after the weekend before the Final Four, as I can watch that on Paramount+.

Sadly you cannot subscribe directly to BTN. You can get BTN+, but that doesn't show the BTN TV games. To stream BTN you have to have a subscription to a carrier that shows BTN.

I looked at various options and the least expensive that I could find at this time is YouTubeTV. Currently it's $65 per month for the first three months. And it includes BTN.

I don't plan to sign up until the beginning of September and then the three month period should cover all of the CATS games. That is, unless they go bowling and if that were to happen I'll be more than glad to extend it longer.

For the Iowa game you have to find something else, becasue it's only on Peacock.

YouTube is very good. We have Hulu and get ESPN Plus, which is great the college basketball season

I also signed up recently for YouTube TV. So far, so good. Much cheaper than AT&T U-Verse, which we ditched. With YouTube TV, I saved NU football and basketball in the "library", meaning that all games carried on YouTube TV will be automatically recorded without me having to search through the channels each week. That's a nice touch.

This Big Ten media contract is annoying, especially the Peacock stuff.
I'm guessing the league thinks that the financial benefit of getting another network into the bidding and paying for one game a week exceeds the downside of pissing off a couple fanbases each week. The fans will likely not drop out and the money keeps coming.

But it sucks. Basically a lot of Iowa and NU fans simply won't watch the game that week.

I will be at most games including IA. Only exception might be MN because I have HS reunion same day at 5 more than 100 miles away

DirecTV’s streaming platform, I think now called DirecTV Now (it was ATT branded for a while, and had ‘stream’ in its product name for a while), has this same feature, and it’s great.

HOWEVAH, it was ~$40 when we signed up about 4 or 5 years ago, and is now $120/month. YouTube TV seems much better at this point.

It’s kind of hilarious that ‘how can I watch a nationally-televised game on network tv?’ is now a challenge, but it is.

We have YouTube TV and I love it. Other than no MLB or NHL networks it has everything I need for a lot less than I was paying with DTV. Great picture quality as well. They also have some obscure channel that has back-to-back Rockford Files every night lol. Nothing wrong with some occasional Beth Davenport.

Ditto. I got YouTube TV a couple years ago, and except for the NHL network, there's nothing I can't watch. Its really easy to set up your regular programs to save every time they're on, and then find those shows in the "library" whenever you're ready to watch them. I'm happy with YouTube TV and recommend it.

Buy Peacock for the Rugby World Cup and get NU v Iowa as a bonus
FUBO is pretty good and can be cancelled at anytime

When I called AT&T to cancel U-Verse, they tried to sell me on DirecTV Streaming, but I wasn't buying. I was tired of the pricing games they played with U-Verse, plus YouTubeTV was still a better deal.

As the old cliche goes, the only constant is change. 20 years ago, I could only watch the occasional NU football game, when it happened to be on a ESPN channel. Then BTN came along, and we were able to watch every game. Now that we're moving into the brave new world of streaming, we may start missing games again. So it goes.

Honestly, I'm not as excited about NU football, or college football in general, as I was 5-10 years ago. Part of it is the smashing of traditions in the pursuit of the almighty dollar, and part of it is the fact that the entire system is rotten and yet Pat F-ing Fitzgerald is the one who gets axed. Stanford and Cal to the ACC may be the point when college football jumps the shark. Why should I still care?
