But I am somewhat intrigued. They are a small team, with their top 5 guys in terms of minutes ( and points) all listed as guards. But they are bigger guards, all listed at 6’5 or 6’6”. And their top 2 collectively put up 32 ppg and pull in 15.4 rbpg. 4 of these guys shoot the 3 well enough, hitting 37% to 41%.

I will be interested to see how Collins handles the 5 spot in this game. Matt played his usual minutes vs DePaul, even when Skogman was out there, so I am guessing we won’t see much different.

Might be an opportunity for Gelo to get some minutes!

Might provide some insight whether Gelo is nursing a shoulder injury

6'6" is tall enough to make those outlet passes to the open three. I'm not worried and I also wouldn't discount them if they get hot from three. This should be a good test of whether the Cats play down to the level of their competition or not.

One of these teams is Northeastern and one is Northwestern

Points Per Game: 72.0 | Rebounds Per Game: 36.2 | Assists Per Game: 14.0 | Points Allowed: 67.4
Points Per Game: 73.8 | Rebounds Per Game: 36.3 | Assists Per Game: 14.7 | Points Allowed: 64.2

conversely their tallest guys are only 6’8”. Maybe Matt can have multiple nicholbombs again. Little hungry appreciates those. Their coach looks very senior.
Big Matt be like

We lost to Hartford (same league as Northeastern) in one of our down years about 5-6 years ago. I never assume it’s a gimme for NU.

My wife picked up a second degree from UHart as it's the local school around here. Even though she doesn't really care about sports, we all watched that game together as a family and it was, needless to say, quite humiliating. She has bragging rights in perpetuity (of course, who are we kidding... she had them anyway).

We better beat the hell out of them. They are 155 in KenPom and 169 in Torvik. But, yes, we are still Northwestern and no game is ever truly a “gimme.”

Here's a good summary from their side: https://wrbbsports.com/2024/12/19/s...consign-northeastern-to-narrow-loss-at-umass/

They have dealt with injuries to some key players, but as the article states, they have also had difficulty with bigger teams as well as consistent performance from half to half during games. It would be good for us to beat them handily. We are also the best team they will likely face this year.

this game should help with the metrics guys, as the offensive numbers were excellent and we forced 22 turnovers.

I’d never heard of Northeastern until after I’d graduated from Northwestern and was walking around Boston. Now apparently Northeastern is almost as selective as Northwestern (based on acceptance rate - though they really try to game that from what I hear).

my son applied to both and I was shocked when he told me Northeastern had a 9% acceptance rate.

Their co-op programs are renowned and very competitive.
The Northeastern of the 2020s is not the same school as the Northeastern of the 1990s or earlier. It used to be a middle of the pack commuter school, but now is really selective and their co-op program has always been excellent. Most students are virtually guaranteed a job upon graduation due to their work experience from co-op and the school’s corporate connections.

Good thing the game has two halves. And even overtime if you need it.
Right. If NU wins first half 50-27, the game would rightly be called a blowout. But reverse it and suddenly NU struggled against an inferior opponent. Whatever.

I was responding to “we better beat the hell out of them”. And it was a two point game at half. At home.
Collins is only exceeding expectations that he himself set with terrible coaching the last six years. Give me a break he’s not winning CoY. It’s Painter no question.
The second Vassar quote was made 2/23/23, after NU led the Illini by 18 at half. At (the Illini’s) home. But lost by 4.
Since Collins in fact won COY, it demonstrates again his piercing insight… based on his comment about NE and defense of same, I guess he thinks the Cats won that game in ‘23.
