I like Ash a alot, but...

Are you implying that he wasn't kicked off the team for good reason? Seems fairly sound to me....

Sounds like there are sides to me. Besides being kicked off a B1G bball team, I assume you can link his guilty plea, conviction, dismissal from the university, yes?

And where are those koolaid members quick to defend perceived character assassinations of team players? Oh, I guess they are only worthy of your defense if they graduate and don't represent an embarrassing rush to judgement by our fine athletic department.

Vasser wanted back on and CCC said nope........Personally, I would have used him as a practice player unless a need developed, like not having a backup at PG. then I would have kept him suited and ready at the end of a long bench. I like CCC and all he has done - but my own personal opinion that I'm entitled to hold is that CCC spit the bit on this situation.

The fact that Vasser may have asked back on the team this fall is a new and interesting twist. If that's the case, I don't fault Collins for declining his request. A player who quickly became dissatisfied with playing time and may have had unrealistic ideas of his ability and role could be poison on a roster, especially with younger players. I am in no way saying Vasser is a bad person, but it clearly didn't work out with NU Bball. Finally, it's not that difficult to find a practice player at guard somewhere in the undergrad class. Plenty of students there who started on decent high school teams in competitive leagues. Forward and center is an entirely different matter.

Especially if he missed out on all the summer workouts, etc...

One possibility. Another is that CCC painted a discouraging picture that encouraged transfer and Vasser agreed. But when no valuable option materialized, Vasser then declined and wanted back while CCC held to his guns. Now, CCC is a schollie short for an uncertain period of time and have a need at PG.

If Vasser was brought back and became disgruntled,it would have been easy to get that schollie back. Alternatively, if Vasser saw this as a chance to showcase for a transfer, he might have developed into a legit backup in light of the current PG situation. Who knows - either way we do that we are playing and practicing our starting guards to the upper limit and we do not when we will have a 13th schollie.

Your post is a little confusing to me but I am pretty sure that there are two separate issues here.

The first is the reason for the departure of Vasser. A lot of conjecture on this board and I prefer to not indict Collins or Vasser. Until proven otherwise, they both gave it a shot and it didn't work out.

The second is this season and the prospect of Vasser practicing and developing into a role player. My response to that is that what Ash's total game has already surpassed whatever Vasser can offer. They both play solid D. But Ash is patient on the floor and able to distribute the ball. In terms of handle, neither are exceptional. So there's more to work with in Ash and even if Vasser came back he was never going to get on the floor. I think that was the problem in the first place.

I just don't see that scenario being realistic. CCC would have lost the other members of JV's class if there was any unfair treatment.
