I said DePaul was dangerous

I know that the Blue Demons lost to Little Sisters of the Poor a couple times this year but it's not hard to make the argument that their talent is equal to or better than NU's, especially with Vic Law sitting out.

Garrett and Henry are both legit four star talents out of the Public League. Hamilton was a four star recruit when NU was recruiting him and then dropped to three when he moved to Florida.

They are certainly struggling through the coaching transition but on the right day, they can be a very good team. DePaul played as well as it can play for the first three quarters of the game. NU didn't play poorly, but sometimes the shots just do not fall as was the case today.

A solid win against a worthwhile opponent. Glad that DePaul gave NU a game.

Actually NU snatched that W away from them. Some of those highly publicized DePaul guys seem to worry to much about adding to much mustard to the hot-doggie.

What is it with these "I told you so" posts after we eke out wins against middling opponents? Depaul is 5-6. Sure, they have some talented kids...but so does every team. I'm thrilled about the win, but we beat a team that kenpom projects will finish the season 10-20. Don't get carried away with your self-congratulations. Let's just breathe a sigh of relief and keep moving forward. 12-1 OOC puts us where we need to be in order to have a shot at The Dance with a strong B1G season. That's the story--not how good Depaul is. (They aren't.)

My post was in anticipation of the advanced metrics guys coming on here and trashing the win and the quality of DePaul as an opponent. Because god knows, a "middling" team filled with top tier talent from the Chicago Public League is completely incapable of putting the occasional high performance game together. So let's instead dwell on how shitty DePaul is and embrace the positive outlook that NU hasn't played anyone pre conference and as a result we have no idea how good this team is AND this team has an impossible chance of making the tournament.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

I've watched a couple of DePaul games (most recently at Stanford) and can vouch for the fact that they played far, far better today. Lots more energy and hustle and much more protective of the basketball (when I have seen them, the basketball has been akin to a hot potato).

Just as Ohio State out of their minds vs. Kentucky today based on what I had seen from them thus far, DePaul was similarly impressive. We shot terribly, gave up a gazillion offensive rebounds, had ridiculous foul trouble, and didn't force turnovers. Typically, for us that is a recipe for a 20 point loss against a team of any quality. But we still managed to beat a power conference team that put forth a good effort on the road. Good teams find a way to win; we do not win this game last year, imo.

mike,
Agree, but DePaul was not on the road - we were!

I didn't and won't trash the win. And I haven't made any of the other points you are suggesting in this or any thread. But I stand by everything I said in my actual post 100%. The story is that we got another win and are the road to a 12-1 OOC record, which puts us in a great position to possibly make the tournament.

There are no bad wins, only bad losses. It sure wasn't a thing of beauty but the kids gutted it out and got a win. Good for them.
