Don't want to jinx anything but so far the Fighting Illini are not fighting too much for Groce.
Honestly, probably the best outcome for us, LOL. Feel bad for the kids, but Groce has taken this program to depths not seen in most of our fans' viewing lifetimes; it's time for a change.
If Groce is gone, when do you expect it to be announced?
Well what if he wins the NIT? That could save his job, don't you think?I guess I'd hope Monday? That way it's officially after Selection Sunday ... semantics, I know. However, Josh Whitman seems to really like and respect him, so I could see Groce coaching in the NIT?

They may not even make the NIT. Very hard to get a big time coach to take over their, current program.I think Illinois needs a big personality as the next coach. Someone like Frank Martin would be fun to watch there.

This makes no sense, sorry. What does John Groce not succeeding at a program that has proven it can be VERY good (under multiple coaches) have to do with the upside of a better coach taking over said program, especially with the current talent Groce squandered? I'm not saying we'll make a splash, but Illinois is still a very easy place to win with a pretty rich tradition, and EVERYONE (regardless of what you think of the hire in retrospect) would have LOLed at the idea that Illinois could get Lovie to come to lead our football program (MUCH less prestigious historically and in much worse shape than hoops) ... so let's see what Whitman can do. Cash certainly won't be a factor, so I'm personally excited.
So you think Groce is a goner?
Just speculation, but I think Whitman would have preferred to keep him ... Groce gave him no choice after the last two games. He has the worst conference record EVER at Illinois, we've simply GOT to switch something up. I think it's announced Monday.
