Illinois chokes, benefits from bad call wins in OT

In the Wisconsin smothering RU thread, I said we would have to earn a bowl game. There will be no easy wins. I said the exception might be Purdue. I might be wrong about that now. Everyone in the conference is improving, especially our old foes from the West. Get out the popcorn, it is going to be a wild season all the way til December!!!!!!
Maybe those teams are saying the same things about us..
Yes, but I don't think anybody's going to be a pushover in the middle of the Big Ten.
Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois are all games we can win or lose. There's not much consistency among us. Look how much better our team looked this week than pretty much every other week.
Maryland was 10.5 point favorites against us... and we won by 27.
That's pretty much going to tell the story the rest of the way; if we can find another 2 or 3 wins, we'll be bowling. Won't be easy at all, but I think it's doable to get to 5 or 6.
The fumble was one of those calls that could not be overturned. The key moments of the play were screened out. You could not tell whether the QB had control before he was down.

Not really. It was obvious that the ball was knocked loose and thar the qb sort of half-assed pinned the ball against his thigh. He clearly lost control and never regained it.
I am sure they are, which means they won't take us lightly either. It is going to be a fun season. I just hope we keep improving every week as the competition is just going to get tougher.
Pretty sure every Maryland fan picked them to annihilate us.
It's always going to be like that though; heck I'd imagine a majority of Purdue fans will still pick their team against ours, though we should be favorites. Fans are gonna be fans.
They did score a ton of points on Illinois. I wasn’t counting on the Purdue game to be a shootout so I’m less sure now. If we can get healthy and stay healthy though, I have confidence in Braun and company to once again improve the team through November and finish strong. It’s just that this year, November brings Michigan and OSU.
Purdue is pretty bad and Illinois is having a nice season but was probably pretty drastically overrated as a top 25 team.
Penn State is a top 5 team right now for crying out loud, in case we’re wondering how silly some of the rankings are
WRT Ratings, I for one am excited about the 12-team playoff. Going to be some great games and it doesn't matter if PSU is top 5 or 8th or 10th, they belong. As do both dOSU and UO. In the old system dOSU would have been finished. I can't wait to see how the playoffs shake out.
Yes. It was Walters, the former Illini DC and now HC at Purdue. He obviously figured out some things.

Prior to the Purdue game, metrics said Illinois was top-40ish. Benefited in the AP rankings because they’ve beaten teams that were ranked early in the season that shouldn’t have been because they are now bad.
Middle of the Big Ten is extremely mid. #4-#12 are all pretty much interchangeable.
On the other hand Washington a team that played for the NC last year doesn't all that good. USC fans want their coach fired, besides Maryland, Purdue and UCLA are winless (in the Big Ten that is) and you never know what can or will happen in a rivalry game like ours against Illinois. And wasn't it reported that the team our guys want to be the most is Iowa due to the way we lost at Wrigley last year? Get out the popcorn indeed!
Without having looked at the computer rankings much this year "top-40 ish" feels about right as to how I had Illinois pegged... and still do.
