Illini were missing Ivisic due to the flu, but Maryland absolutely destroyed them in Champaign tonight. Illinois looked completely out of sorts, and Maryland got anything they wanted inside. Reese had a career night, Maryland crushed them on fast break points and points off of turnovers.

Here's hoping they stay in their funk until Sunday.

I’m heading down to Champaign and don’t love playing a team like that after they just got smushed at home. Maybe they’ll still be feeling the effects of whatever flu bug they’ve had…but don’t get our guys sick!

I watched tonight as well, and man, KJ was off - 7 TOs, and needed 11 FTs to get 21 points because he was 5/14 on the night. Boswell also coughed it up 5 times, as he had 14 on 10. Ivisic had strep throat and played Sparty on Sunday - apparently he's still feeling the effects of it, and they really missed the big guy. Ben Humichrous continuous to be a curious case - He's had nights where he put 21 on 15 (5/9 from 3FG) against PSU, but tonight he was 0 on 3 shots.

They'll be playing with urgency against us - this drops them to 5-4 in B1G, and they have 3 of their next 4 after our tilt are away games (NEB, RUT, MIN).

That the worst effort I have seen from an Undie team since he got there. Look disinterested and lost on defense. Just terrible in every aspect of the game. I expect Undie to get them fired up for Sunday. Undie is a pretty good Coach. Would rather play them after they won by 20 points.

I'll also note that Maryland played their starters for 85% of the game and got a grand total of 2 points off of 2 free throws from their bench, despite blowing them out and having the game clinched for the last 5 minutes.

He is being treated with antibiotics for strep and he's at the the tail end of it.

Don't read too much into this - 2 of their top 3 (apparently 3 of the 5 starters per the post above) were ill and it was a horrible matchup. They only have 2 centers and had to play Booth for the first time in a long time, if not ever. They are principally a pic and roll team but that aspect of their offense was gone. And their is no team in the Big who can punish you down low when you are playing a stretch 4 at the 5 with no other help than Maryland. Maybe Michigan.

Regardless, it was a mess in Champaign last night but my guess is we will see a very different team on Sunday. Also, Maryland is the only team that consistently beats Underwood. Much like Collins and Woodson and Underwood is with Michigan. Some teams just have your number and for whatever reason, Maryland has Underwood's number.

Even worse for Illinois, Ivisic has mono and will be out for awhile. Illinois is not the same without the pick and roll game of Jakucionis and Ivisic. Ivisic opens up the floor for the rest of the team. Plus he is also their best rim protector. Really sucks but you have to keep going.

Illinois has only had its full lineup once in the last five games. KJ missed two games with injury. Then against MSU he only played 8 minutes. Now Ivisic. Against Indiana when they had everyone, they had IU down 30 in the first half.

Yep, Lindsey had it in 2017 and missed 4 games, including our 2nd win ever at the Kohl Center, and didn't really get back to himself until the big ten tourney. Lumpkin got it in 2013 and ended up redshirting the season.

The remaining players match up much better against NU than Maryland. The issue against Maryland was that Maryland has two bigs and Illinois could not match up against them. Then Morez Johnson was called for a mystery foul leaving them with no bigs and two sick wings.

They only need one big against NU and Nicholson will not draw fouls on Johnson.
