No Hoosiers were harmed in the making of this blowout.
They could very well have been laid out and wouldn’t have surprised me. Some Purdue player easily could lose his mind in the last quarter of a winless season that Cig is rubbing your nose in it. Who cares about a 15 yard penalty or ejection, I think you saw all the nonsense from the flag planting yesterday as emotions can run high. It can happen.
Amazing that those Hoosier fans were complaining when Day scored that meaningless TD against them as unnecessary. Pot meet kettle.
I don’t get why more coaches don’t intentionally try to score 69 on garbage opponents. It is the ultimate insult.
I get your take but also think it’s okay to kick your rival’s ass. Also get an opportunity for the second and third string guys on senior day. Like it or not style points matter for rankings which all of a sudden are extremely important.

I didn’t watch much of that game but I looked at the box score and drive chart. First, for ranking purposes IU had to soundly beat PU. Maybe not 66-0, but PU had sixty seven TOTAL yards and FIVE turnovers. This resulted in a lot of time of possession as well as several short scoring drives for IU. What were they supposed to do?
It was 28-0 at halftime, game decided, not unexpected.
After halftime:
Purdue fumbled the first play, of course IU scores.
The next 2 drives were 3 and out w/ short punts, IU getting the ball in plus territory. Scores.
2 of the next 3 drives, Purdue almost immediately turns it over, resulting in very short scoring drives.
By my calculation, after halftime Purdue had a net -4 yards of offense.
So you can see how this outcome unfolded.
Only criticism is it doesn’t show any stats for QBs other than O’Rourke, who probably shouldn’t have been in after the first drive of the second half.
Although Purdue somehow scored like 40 points in the second half against a pretty good Illinois team.

Well at least it's incentive to get better. In 2000, NU beat Illinois 61-23 in Champaign. At least we showed them some mercy. The Illini won the next two years.
I think we saw in the OSU game what actually unacceptable behavior in a rivalry looked like. We can quit the pearl clutching about pounding your rival on the actual field of play, especially when IU gets a very real boost out of this, eliminating any remaining tiny chance they get left out.
Did you happen to look at the game stats? Purdue looked like Bambi out there. There was no way NOT to destroyed them.
IU had plenty of reserves in in the 4th quarter. I’ve never ever seen a P-4 team as inept and helpless as Purdue was last night.
They turned the ball over 5 times and set a program record of fewest total yards gained by a Purdue team ever breaking a record set in 1971.
The defense was even worse. Are you going to tell the second and third stringers, who finally get a chance to play, to lay down and not try?
Go to ESPN and look at the stats and then watch a replay of the game if it means that much to you. I think it will make more sense.

Was there at IU freezing my ass off last night. Anyone here recall Iowa at NU, ‘95? I do, as I was there at that cold one too. Weather was like that, but probably colder since it was at night. I also remember fondly the NU beat down in the cold of the Illini when, I believe, the score at half was 49-2.
The IU 2’s, 3’s and 4’s did nothing, but run the ball the last 12 minutes. Not one pass was thrown by the back-up qb Tayven Jackson in Q4.
PU had 5 TO’s, gave up 11 sacks or TFLs and punted 9 times. Those 25 plays accounted for 47% of their total plays (54).
Guess PPD wanted IU to do a 4th quarter of nothing but kneel downs. And for the record, I had no issue with OSU scoring the late Td last week.

Just be consistent as a fanbase. I can did up the tweets/posts criticizing Day for scoring that last touchdown too.

Of course. I sat next to a bunch of Drunks that thought it was Mardi Gras. That was well over a month ago. All I said was they my are lucky no one went after the players. I have seen that back in the day. Isn’t Purdue your so-called rival? You don’t think it’s a possibility that emotions run high when you kick a rivals ass by 60+. Not sure why you interpret that as so fired up.
Is it not true, that a portion of the Indiana fanbase weren’t happy that OSU scored a late unnecessary TD? I just found this hypocritical as IU beat the snot out of the likes of Western Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State and now Purdue with an abundance of late scores. They were not in full run the ball mode in all of those games. That’s my take.
Most folks on this board, who’ve been here for more than a few days, knows I’ve been here for years. No radar needed. I’ll certainly be around whether you like it or not. NU, thru marriage, the cats have been my 2nd team for more than 30 years. A former Central St resident, NU season ticket holder and a wife who went there and was on faculty for many years.
In case you missed it, style points and margin of victory count more than ever these days in trying to get to the CFP. Your takes above re the Nebraska and MSU games are yours, but I think most on this or any board will agree that…Nebraska? 28 points by the starting qb in first half. Whole 2nd half? Was played with our back-up qb, who’s allowed to throw the ball too. It’s called a statement game. All the experts leading up were saying “they’ve never faced a d like these Husker blacks shirts.” Oops!! It’s Nebraska’s job to stop the back-up qb and the 2’s, not IU’s.
MSU? Again, they have players on the field too, whose jobs it is to stop the other team. Would have to look back, but doubt Jackson threw a pass after the 8 minute mark. The back-ups, regardless of what team, work just as hard, put in as much time as the starters. They’ve earned the opportunity to do what they’re supposed to do. The other team? Their job to stop it.

Exactly. Don’t sweat it. Most of us recognize you. We know you have followed the Cats for years.
I have thought about how much this is sort of Indiana’s version of our 1995 season, even more so than the Randle El years.
It would be a huge stretch to say that I am happy for the Hoosiers, but I can certainly empathize with another long-suffering fan base. It must be fun.

Cool, I’ve only been here 10 years and never lived on central street or had a wife alum. It’s amazing that any Indiana comment that is perceived to be negative brings out the defensive mechanisms from the fanbase. One sentence is all it took.

A signature win to open the season would’ve made it more like the NU 1995 season. Especially ND, that would be especially sweet for IU. Maybe they’ll get their shot in the playoff. But the comparison also highlights the fading out of the Rose Bowl tradition. Sure, they could win a national title if they win out. But if they lose the first game it’s just like another game, not even a destination bowl game - looks like they may be slated to play at Georgia.
If they get past Illinois they may be 9-0 going into the Oregon game. I don’t see Wisconsin or Iowa being very scary next year.
