The big news: three-star Miss. ATH Calvin Johnson is visiting NU over the next few days. He's leaving tomorrow and will be in Evanston on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. He is making the 10-plus-hour drive with his mom, dad and younger brother.

Obviously, he's an impressive kid. 4.0 GPA, 35 ACT (!). NU is recruiting him as a wide receiver, but he's gotten offers for QB, CB, ATH and RB, too. He said a couple of complimentary things about NU's recruitment of him. He said that NU has given him by far the most information -- about everything from academics to the alumni network -- and he appreciates that. He also said that, in addition to Coach Springer and recruiting assistants, he talks to Fitz a lot. He said that it shows him that he's a high priority for the staff. He said that Fitz and James Franklin are the only head coaches he talks to on a regular basis.

He is still committed to Navy but says he is now open to other opportunities (obviously). He said that he'd also like to visit Penn State, Duke, Vandy, TCU and possibly some others. He said that he's looking for academics, a family atmosphere and "a place where I can compete for championships." That's the first thing that he mentioned about NU: that they were playing in some big games and competing for championships. He liked that.

I’ll post a story tomorrow, most likely.
