More accurately, the rule is that all athletic scholarships are 4-year scholarships (the NCAA doesn't mandate this; the norm was one year scholarships that the coach might elect not to renew). The Big Ten rule is that all athletic scholarships are 4-year scholarships and the schools will honor them.
