James Franklin…

He knows that NU fans hold his ‘Dear John’ Vandy fax against him, so he continually feels the need to prove to us that he’s tough.

He coaches a dirty team. I hope they get beaten up by OSU and Michigan. They are classless with the most disgusting history in college sports. It is a true shame they are in our conference.

Nah blame Sully for the spread. That's a first year player mistake. No excuses
I blame Braun he gifted the 10 points with going for it on 4th and 1, then follows it up with atrick play.

Albeit I think he is a classless jagbag. He should have been running the ball and the clock. Instead that tool is passing the ball. I almost was wishing somebody would have taken out his knees.

I didn’t mind either call. Gotta take chances to beat PSU, and we were inches away several times today.
What upset me is when Bryant slid and it was clearly very close, and we took our time at line of scrimmage, changed the play, and only then did the refs stop for the review. You have to have urgency there.

Gotcha, so it’s cool to fake a knee on 1st and 10 and throw with two minutes left up 21.

Good to know. I stand corrected…
That was a classless call by them D**k move. PSU fan said it was a backup just trying to get rep in but that was classless faking the taking a knee to run out clock and then doing that

That’s not what happened. That’s a fake QB draw step back.

More than 2 mins left in the game. That was no fake knee. Come on.

A play action TE seam off the draw action is likely the call, but the execution was so screwy that even the FOX rules analyst said they could have blown the play dead as it looked more like the PSU QB was faking a knee than attempting a draw.

Either way, running play action on 1st & 10 up 21 with 2 minutes left is such a d*#% move.

This is the correct answer. They reinforced this rule after the Pickett fake. If that wasn’t a fake knee then it was the most awkward QB draw fake I’ve ever seen.

The whole point is for the QB to hide his numbers, which makes the safeties read run.

This is just a basic play in modern college football.

Franklin was obviously trying to run up the score once he got by 17. He got way more aggressive on both offense and defensive. It worked. Everyone I ran into last night that missed the game claimed the Cats were hammered by PSU . Everyone who saw the game said Cats put up a good fight. Got to get those votes James. Can’t believe I am saying this, but I hope both OSU and UM kick their ass.

Are you insane? Context is everything here. There was 2:30 left and they were up 21 points. They couldn’t run out the clock but could get pretty close. The dude faked taking a knee. If someone got hurt on that play, FrankLin would have been crucified. Justifiably so.

Fake or not, it’s exactly why some teams get pissed and cheap shot players. Franklin was being his usual classless prick.

Franklin has a history of doing this thing, man, I’m not making it up.

Go to 4:27. The kid is never ever going to kneel. The entire idea is for the QB to “disappear” to the safeties and linebackers so they come downhill. Same idea as the jump pass that Tebow made famous:

I hate to admit it, but you convinced me.

GCG,

I completely agree with you that draw action out of empty is a common component of many offensive systems (it’s the only way to get PA out of empty if you aren’t employing motion).

My understanding is the QB is supposed to lean forward, not drop the knee to disguise the intention. Am I incorrect?

I’m genuinely interested in this. Simulating taking a knee, by rule, requires the officials to blow the play dead. This may be one of the scenarios where that should have occurred.

Agree on Franklin, disagree on the kneel. Context is everything here. Even the replay official said the play should have been blown dead. Again, if they take a knee 3 times tge game is basically over.

You’re just wrong. But you do you, man.

Barney Fife with a coach's whistle. He will never win the clutch games.

So was it a legal play or not by the QB regardless of what it was…

Dude, I just watched the Tebow jump pass on YouTube. At no point does he pretend to kneel down. He fakes a QB sneak and then throws it.

I might buy that it was supposed to be a fake QB draw but it was poorly executed by the backup QB and had every right to be blown dead. That was not a step forward running motion or a step forward pump fake, it was a half-kneel. You ask someone to look at that without any other interpretation and most would say he’s starting to kneel down, nobody would say he’s starting to run.
