The two best case studies I've ever seen in good coordinators who should have never, ever been promoted to head coaching positions. They fundamentally lack the talent to serve as figure heads for anything meaningful. Media Days is their worst enemy.

I think the jury's still out on Beckman, actually.

His teams have improved each year so far, and don't forget our last game against him.

How many times are we going to hear about that game last year? We were awful and they were good. I'll give them props for that game. Becky is 12-25, has a myriad of players speaking out negatively about his tactics, can't get in state kids to go to the flagship, and my be the most incoherent speaker that I have ever heard at this level. The jury is still out? He is lucky he has Cubit.

PPD - we have to suck it up until we play them again. We can blah blah about how ridiculous he is or players can't stand him, but our team lost to them.

It's easy for us to see what a gigantic dope he is, but for a casual fan or a poorly prepared game announcer (and there are many), he was successful at repairing the Toledo program that had fallen on hard times, and took on this moribund program and is projecting upward. The Randy Walker model, if you will.

This compared to our program which has declined every year since 08, with the exception of 2012. Wait - 2013 and -14 were the same losing record, not worse in 14

If both teams are both groveling around at 5 wins in the last game, look for the announcers to point out this trend

Does anyone here realize that we should be boasting about 3 straight wins against Michigan and two more bowl seasons? If we can't get our own house clean, I find it difficult to criticize our country cousins.

We have our own issues, but given all the off the field crap Beckman is in big trouble if he doesn't win. They also have problems going in the women's basketball program, and this is not the kind of publicity any university sports program, especially one that's been scuffling along, wants.

I don't think the fact that we have are own issues disqualifies us from having an opinion on Becky. Even if we lose to them this year, I feel they have significant issues in their athletic department that won't be resolved without personnel changes. Football is at the top of that list. A loss just means a heightened demand to fix our problems which also could mean personnel changes.

Becky is the highest paid state employee. Sure, he is an easy target, but his representation of the state flagship is embarrassing.

Read our Head Coaches Q&A on some of the other sites. Clearly, you have a leader that gives thoughtful articulate answers and his priorities are where most NU fans think they should be. Compare those to this Dagwood Bumstead act of Becky! I agree that we have our issues . 5-7 stinks. However, I have faith the current staff will eventually right the ship and therein lies the distinction.

I am just talking about coaching pedigree - the ability to serve as the chief ambassador and spokesperson for a multi-million dollar college football program that involves over 100 players, a bunch of personnel, and an untold numbers of fans. I am critical of Fitz for many reasons, but he is fit to be a head coach (even though he may lose a few he should win) and I don't worry about the program being in good hands.

On the other hand, you look at guys like Wilson and Becks - I watched Wilson on BTN yesterday and wanted to punch him in the face - I can't honestly imagine him going into anyone's living room and convincing them to play for him. He looks and acts like a smug, joyless, curmudgeon, which would be fine if he could get to six wins. Then there's Beckman who oozes confidence but for god's sake why?? It's frustrating that in a power five conference, with sick amounts of money to spend, this is the best we can do for head coaching reps.

With that non-conference schedule he is playing this year, Beckman has another chance to get to six wins. But I guarantee you there will be thousands of empty seats for the creampuffs he is playing in September. An easy schedule and o"toole saved his butt last year (although he finished with an ugly bowl loss to a non-power 5) Now he has to go with his choice at QB, the statue Lunt with no experienced backup. The heat is on! Will be interesting to see how his team responds.

Folks have been commenting about Beckman for several years, but I had never seen him for an extended time in a public forum before until yesterday. Yikes! That man really struggles to articulate meaningful thoughts. I feel sorry for him; public relations is not his strength. I was having trouble picturing him as a recruiter. I am assuming that he does much better in one-on-one or small group settings, but in bigger groups he sure didn't look good.
