With Illinois, Maryland, USC, South Carolina, and more to follow, we will see lots of recruits changing schools and committing to other programs. Most likely see staffs moving from one team to another and taking some of their recruits with them. This year is going to be a very interesting recruiting season. Stable schools like Northwestern should benefit from the stability of the program and possibly pick up a few recruits leaving other schools.

I don't think we have many if any targets that committed to these schools. If this is to happen I think it is likely it happen to targets where the coach hasn't yet left.

I always thought of Rider as a 'stable' college. see link

Especially is we can right the ship after the Michingan loss, and continue to have an outstanding season.

I remember we landed VanHoose when the IU coaches left. We also lost Perry when Harbaugh came in and needed to make up for the lack of recruits so sometimes it cuts both ways.

It cuts 4 ways. We weren't the first choice of many who committed to us, including Perry. A coaching change at Michigan made him de-commit. You mentioned Van Hoose as the second way. A 3rd or 4th way would be if Fitz left. He would be very marketable if he won 8 or more games this year. If he wins the division, he may be gone. If that happens then the recruits we have may leave, or new recruits could come with a new coach. Welcome to College Football, but Fitz is not outside of this world. If he gets his salary doubled, he is most likely gone to a turnkey gig.

On the other hand, if we collapse in the second half of the season again, nobody from other schools will be talking about Fitz. I see the online "Fitz leaving NU" scenario that happens every time we win a few games has begun.

Right. And if we miraculously manage to win the division, the talk will be another ten-year extension, with a hefty multi-million dollar salary raise to boot...if we managed the super-miracle of a B1G crown (not that it seems likely) NU may just turn the entire AD to PF, for life, with the clause that garantees he will be the highest paid B1G HC until death...
...like we didn't win 3 B1G crowns over a decade, right before he took over... or ever won one.

I'm ok doing that. PF 4 Life.

No but maybe there might be an available position coach who could be an upgrade

make

Fitz already makes a bundle and has a secure job for life. The only reason he would leave is if he no longer wants to coach at NU, for whatever reason. I really doubt that big bucks would draw him away.

Does anyone here honestly believe that there is even a smidgen of a chance that Fitz gets lured away? If it did not happen after 2012, why is it more likely now that 1) new facilities are coming; 2) PF has 2 very good young classes to build upon; 3) he got another raise; 4) the openings at MD and ILL are lateral moves at best.

I guess he's on the long list for USC, but he seems pretty rooted here.

Not me. For all the reason you cite, plus he just seems to love living in the Chicago area. He is set for life at NU, why would he ever leave no matter what the additional money? It ain't like he is clipping coupons on $2.450,000 a year!

Certainly not leaving for MD or ILL. But usc might be intriguing

But isn't his house in Northfield on the market?

Yep, in coaching you have to make it while you can because you can be fired at the drop of a hat, but Fitz has built equity at NU and we're not going to drop him after a couple tough seasons. 2.5 million over the next 10 years is more than a 4 million over 5 years and then ending up a special teams intern... no offense Genyk.

Uh, did I mis another contract extension? I thought he had 5 years left on his current contract. In which case economically he's better off with a 5-year deal somewhere else for more money. But I seriously doubt he will ever leave NU voluntarily.

AD's want to fire (bad) coaches during the season now to get an earlier head start on the best coaches available.

Lower taxes in TX or FL plus a better recruiting base? Those are the only reason I can think of.

He would already have so much money that he would never have to work again. I really doubt that he would blow those millions like professional athletes do.

I agree. But all I was trying to say is IF he is making a decision for the money, all he has in his pocket is 5 more years from NU, and he would be nuts to consider anything less than a 5 year deal somewhere else.

Fitz isn't going anywhere. Do you ever know what you are talking about or is everything you say just complete BS?

Fitz loves chicago but i havent seen a model where a coach at a private school doesnt leave for a big gig.
The question becomes "does his ambition trump everything you just said?"
I dont have the answer but i think we all can conclude that he will be passing on the chance of a lifetime to win a NC, when even his best coaching may net him a couple bigten championships if he stays here 20 more years.
Id like to think he would stay but if he doesnt take usc then me thinks he will b the next ND coach.

I hope you are right. But he does have an agent and he did engage mich last year insomuch that they offered. Maybe he stays but there is no certain conclusion of that whereby your opinion has any validity to discount other opinions. Have a nice day and i hope you address your anger.

Here's one: Jim Grobe at Wake Forest (undergrad population 4,400). Came to Wake from Ohio in 2001, retired in 2013. Won the ACC in 2006 with an 11-2 record, played in the Orange Bowl, won the Bobby Dodd and AP National Coach of the year. Had plenty of national success yet remained at the small private school. His 77 wins tied Peahead Walker for most in Wake Forest football history. Remarkably similar to Fitzgerald's experience except for the age at which they started at their small private school. If anything, what Grobe accomplished at Wake was even more exceptional than Pat, yet he didn't bolt for a bigger gig.
