Everyone keeps saying that Maryland will have a great home advantage. I know they will be able to bring in a much larger crowd, maybe even 5 or 6 times larger.

But it is not actually their home court is it? So I'm curious, having never even played BB except in somebodie's drive way. Isn't there some advantage to having just played there last night? People talk about some rims are "Softer" or "Stiffer", I've heard some courts are more "Live" than others. Then there is the sole spacial awareness thing, of how it sounds and what the proximity of the crowd and ceiling and lights is like. Plus after last night, It has to feel right and comfortable. Maryland could also come out cold having not played in a week, right?

Just wondering.

Sleeping in their own beds and having their normal daily routines helps. Also a home-field "advantage" is generally not related to the unique stuff on a field or in an arena but some studies have shown it's more about the unconscious bias of the officials.

NU played as well on the road as at home this season, winning 5 Big 10 games each way. I actually think they play better away, seem more focused and together.

Rims definitely range in forgiveness. Getting accustomed to the lighting and to a lesser extent the background is also important.

As mentioned previously, studies show the home court advantage is mainly from referees giving the home team more of the 50/50 calls because of the crowd. It's very likely entirely unintentional.

Despite the "home" crowd for Maryland and their double-bye, IMO the boys have a solid chance. Last night wasn't a stressful game, and if they come out hot it could be a long night for Maryland.

Just opened as a pick-em at an offshore book. I thought Maryland would be a 2-3 point favorite.

And played well on Neutral courts as well.

I hear what you're saying, but they're almost certainly staying at a hotel in DC. Teams usually do for these tournaments, even when local.

I believe the advantage lies with the team that has the crowd on their side. In the old Big East , Syracuse fans would dominate the semi-finals and finals(If they got there) creating the environment of a "home court advantage". Maryland could do that tonight

Not if the other schools fans get behind NU in their historic season.

Probably the familiarity with the facility is outweighed by playing a game 24 hours prior(see Rutgers)

Given that it's a Friday, I could see some people staying long, but I'd imagine there aren't going to be many fans there from other schools, except maybe Wisconsin/Indiana fans.
