No, he wasn't. BMac was about a 39% shooter (34% from 3) and Ash was about 36% (32% from 3) That is about a 10% difference. But BMac was also supposed to be lead guard and coordinate the O (something that Ash seemed a little short on) while Ash was more of a 2 so his shooting % needed to be higher to justify more minutes on the floor. And while Ash has often been touted for his Defensive prowess, we saw a lot of holes when he tried to guard PGs.
He sucked you in.

I'm certainly no "basketball stats" guy, but from what I can tell advanced stats have him as at least an average defender. Seems to be driven primarily by averaging more than 2.0 steals/game each of the last two years.
Hard to tell defense from stats for a single player because they can be helped or hurt a lot based on the skills of his teammates. Only way to tell is tape. Although good stats is never a bad sign.
I’d be totally good with this new dynamic. All of a sudden NU turns into a brand new, experienced team with guys who want to win now. A totally different vibe from relying on a bunch of freshmen. It would be nice to ease them into the college game.

I’d bet Mooney would start over Lathon at lead guard. Collins will at least be telling him he has every opportunity to win that role this summer.

Mooney
Taylor
Law
Falzon OR Gaines OR Turner OR Nance

Looks pretty good. Especially the 40 PPG combined between the grad transfers.
I bet Lathon starts regardless of who transfers in unless we get a stud true PG which Mooney I wouldn't call true PG. We might run a smaller lineup by moving law to the 4 at that point which would be very interesting.

Our guys size wise best for the 4 are Nance and Falzon. Benson and law are the only other guys I see playing the 4 possibly. (Maybe Turner and Taylor but I don't think so) Given that Nance has never been in a college weight program and Falzon style just isn't physical. That line up doesn't really loss the physicality or rebounding at all playing law there. Which is what I tend to worry about running smaller.

I'm just assuming here Nance isn't gonna be a plus defender cuz freshman. (Could be totally wrong but it's for the sake of preseason talk and to make my view point more correct ) Falzon has already shown that at best he could be with a lot of improvement is solid to slight plus at D. I still haven't seen tape of Taylor, Mooney, or Turner but that's not horribly hard defense to better than. They also They all seem to be pretty good scorers based on what is discussed here. So running that lineup potentially gets your best 5 on the floor.

For me, the biggest change is that the kids don't have to play. If they are good enough to win a spot from day one, awesome. If not, now you have an experienced player ready to go. I think this would be the case if Mooney comes or if one of the grad transfer PG comes.
